Hey all of you WISHers. Just came upon this late or should I say early this morning. I am currently in for a long uphill climb. A few years ago I started to train for a marathon only to severely injure my knee. After 2 ACL grafts I am back in training. This time for the Princess 1/2 marathon in 2012. Due to the extent of my injury my Docs will only allow me to train for a half marathon, walking only. Never the less, I am so excited. As I regain strength my knee I want to do some 5 and 10K's. Just in the little bit I have browsed these posts feel inspired. I am a real go getter many who know me say, so it has been very difficult to take things as slow as I have to in my training. My heart and mind say GO GO GO but my knee and calves say otherwise. I'm not hot on not being able to GO GO GO. Accepting that has been harder then the training part. My wonderful sister and husband have been great through all of this. In fact she and I are planning on doing the 1/2 marathon together. I can't think of another person I would rather share that special moment with, crossing the finish line. She is way more advanced in her training then me so I'm not sure if we will cross together but it is something I dream of. We have been through a lot together. Well any way I will be reading these posts as an aid to keep things in perspective and hope to inspire others. Thanks again.

:welcome: to the WISH boards!! also, you will find alot of training talk at the sub-forum found at the top of the page called "Events/Competition"

i'm glad you posted so i could shout out as a fellow 'powerwalker'. though i tried running, i loved the results but hated the runs. I developed tendonitis in my feet and started powerwalking. mentally, it is a perfect match for me, i hope soon you find your powerwalk too. i can only imagine how disappointed you are with the running restriction, but i can imagine. i know how the fever strikes.

i started out walking fast, concentrating on shorter quicker heel-to-toe steps. I would do intervals of really concentrating, then mental break. overtime i retrained the muscle memory. until powerwalking was natural and i was doing without concentrating. make sense? it sounds like you have a powerwalker-mentor already and that is fantastic!

and, you get to enjoy the events a little longer ...lol....not always a great thing but looking back after it always is
