I got a phone call last night that a cousin of mine in CA passed away. She lived in northern CA so I didn't get to see her very often. Last time I saw her was probably a few years ago. We were never that close unfortunately. She was 46 or 47 so there was quite an age gap between us too.
She has a daughter who was just here in MI for two weeks last summer. She is only 14. I feel so bad for her. I guess my cousin had been fighting with her husband and went to spend the night at her mom's house who lives on the same block. Her daughter went to a friends house for the night. My cousin spent the night on the couch and when her mom woke up the next morning she was still on the couch with the t.v. on. She hadn't moved and was "pale as a ghost". She had passed away in her sleep and that's how her mom found her.
They have to do an autopsy to find out what happened. They think maybe a heart attack. Her 14 yr old daughter was still at the friends house. I can't imagine coming home from a sleep -over to find out your mom died overnight. And I can't imagine my cousin's mom having to find her daughter had died on the couch over night. What a nightmare.
I didn't know her that well so I'm more upset for her daughter. I can't imagine losing my mom at 14. What made me saddest was thinking of my own kids. I know now why they say death is hardest on the living. I will no longer wish to win the lotto or to look a certain way or any other unimportant thing. I have only one wish and that is to live long enough to see all my kids grown, married and having families of their own. This has really made me see what's important and to cherish every moment. You never know when your time is up.
