I got an e-mail from Chase the other day asking me to please activate my credit card. It wasn't a scam, I do indeed have a Chase credit card, and I received my yearly renewal card in late November. Well, I just stuck it in my purse and forgot all about it.

When I got the e-mail, I dug the card out of my purse and called the number to activate it. I then logged on to my account to get the particulars, and lo and behold, I have a $50 cash reward on the card! I can get cash, apply it to the balance, buy something with it, or just leave it there. I didn't even know that this particular card was a rewards type account!

I think I might apply it to the balance, as we're trying to pay off credit cards this year. The interest rate on this card is relatively low, so I think it may now be my card of choice when I find I need to use a credit card. We've agreed that every new purchase will be paid in full each month, along with the regular monthly payment, so no extra fees incurred.

What a nice start to the new year!

Last year I was looking at our Capital One account. There is a card showing online that we haven't used in several years, in fact, they've quit sending us new cards, but it still shows up online. I noted it came with 5000 miles when we opened it, which was not nearly enough to go anywhere but I finally figured out I could get $25 cash instead. Cashed it out and used it on vacation.

Love credit card rewards! DH earns a lot buying fuel for his semi.

on a much lesser scale (but still found money) I got an e-mail from Wal-Mart Savings Catcher today about a receipt from 1/13 - they found another lower price and I got 35 cents back. Note that receipt is 10 days old so they had already price compared it and I had forgotten about it. Not sure how that works but I'll take the extra money :cool1:

Yesterday I was looking at my statement from the bank where we have our mortgage. We had to open a savings account there when we got our mortgage. They deposited $153 in December for excess escrow money! I had no idea!! Cashing it out and taking it to Disney next week for a surprise for the family!!
