I was looking at our bank statement online today and saw a direct deposit for $1100 & change! This was separate from my work payroll and I didn't recognize it. I call DW and she was typing ME an email to ask about it because she saw it.

We do some more investigation and it turns out it's part of the 'Tobacco Settlement' between the growers (her dad used to be one) and the government. Her father passed away in 2009, we got the settlement in 2010 but we were thinking it was the last one. Nope, here's another!

We are debt free except the house, so it's going into the pot toward Disney/replacement van (yes, we have an "emergency" fund).

Woo hoo!

I'm in the process of getting some "found" money too! My mom passed away in 2007 and we just found out that there was an insurance policy with my brother and I listed as beneficiaries that her dad bought in 1948! It's not much - we think around $1,100 each but it's going into the vacation fund! That, on top of the large tax return I'm getting this year are paying for two weeks in Florida (but not Disney). I've always wanted to swim with the dolphins so we are going to Discover Cove and doing Seaworld, Aquatica, Busch Gardens and Universal/IOA this year!

Congrats. We received "found" money today too. Apparently when we refinanced the house at the end of the year, we overpaid. I went to the mailbox and we got a check for $673. Being the skeptic that I am, I did have to start making calls to make sure it was not a mistake. LOL

Hey, I found $4.50 in a vending machine this week and was excited about that... $1100 is great!

Congratulations on the found money! We found $550 this week on a reward card! I wanted to use it to bump up the vacation budget, but DH wants to save it. Oh well, still nice to have it!

As I like to say after winning a big poker hand... "ship itttttt"

This thread inspired me to "Find" some money. I just checked unclaimed property in Texas and found $280 in my husband's name. Already have the claim form filled out. That can go in the bucket for the Food and Wine trip to WDW I want to take in October.
