I get sick and tired of hearing foul language. I do not use those words and I don't care to hear them. ESPECIALLY in places where there are children. What do you think? Does foul language bother you?

It all depends on the setting. If it's in an R rated movie, I expect it, so no big deal. My husband uses WAY too much foul language around here, so I'm pretty used to it. He's trying to cut down - we'll see how that goes.

But if I hear a bunch of kids using it, I feel like asking them if their mom knows they talk that way.;)

To a point. The one word I can't really stand is the F word, which is probably why I don't listen to a lot of rap music. Seems like the F word is rampant there. I also don't like it when I hear it in public, and when young kids say it.

If it is said to make a point and to be emphatic..I dont have a problem with it.

When it is every other word, the person just sounds unitelligent and that bothers me.

Yes. I wish I could stop.;)

Seriously, I wish we could all be more careful about the "passionate" words we choose.

And is it my imagination, or are more and more questionable words getting through the censors on the major networks(I'm talking about sitcoms)?

The occasional slip-up isn't so bothersome - I tend to let one fly over stubbed toes, dropped dishes, and other little matters. I never direct such words AT a person or call foul names and that is probably what gets me the most. I especially can't stand people who just fling curse words (esp. the "F" one) around for no reason, like "The sky is so ___ blue". UGH!!

You have to wonder what the origins of some of these words are. Cliff Claven if your out there?? I mean really, did someone just make up a word one day and it just sounded bad to someone and it became a swear word? Is it because its said out of passion. Really, I could say "Oh desk, I am really angry" Would sooner or later this be banned on the airwaves?? Just curious...sorry for rambling!

That's what I wonder. What makes a word offensive? Its weird how we have that mindset when you think about it. I become uncomfortable when the b-word is used to refer to a female dog and that is what they are called. Just strange.

not really, i hear it all the time at school, so im used to it. i dont say them, but most kids i know do:crazy:

No it does not botter me, unless there are children around.

The one thing that I have never understood is when adults are offended if a child uses foul language, yet when adults use them then it's acceptable or "no big deal".

BTW, Grinninghost, this IS NOT directed at your post. I have been thinking about this since Teresa H. Kerry told the reporter to "shove it". If a child used those words, many adults think that he/she is at least rude for saying the word and probably assume that the parents use foul language around the child on a regular basis. Why is it ok for adults to use foul language? I guess it's all goes back to "do as I say, and not as I do".

BTW, we don't use foul language in front of our children, yet they have heard those words at school and friends and now know them.

I voted yes.

It doesn't bother me if I know it will be taking place, or if it is in an all adult atmosphere where it is done for a purpose and not overdone.

I HATE people who use lots of foul language in public places, esp. around kids with no thought of anyone but themself.

It makes them come off as stupid and trashy.

They bother me when a person's speech is littered with them. But, I don't care for "um" and "like" and the infamous "OMG" littering speech either.

In context, not a problem.

A slight slip-of-the-tongue every now and again doesn't bother me, but overall, yes, the use of foul language does bother me, especially when it's used in public places with young children present. IMO, there's just no point in using it. :p Just my two cents :)

I don't allow DS, age 9, to use it. DH and I try very hard not to.
The kids on my bus are not allowed to-rule #3.:)

What I hate more is racist, bigoted, intolerant talk. That is far
worse than a few cuss words IMHO. Far worse!

Yes, it bothers me very much. I don't think it is necessary whatsoever....not even to make a point.

I think it depends on whose mouth they are coming from. If I'm with my friends, I don't even notice when they are saying "foul" words. So I voted No. But like I said, it depends who is saying them.

Doesn't bother me one little bit. I am, however, aware of the sensitivities of others and would never subject them to such language(unless I was POSITIVE that no offense would be taken).:D
