FOTL question

If we are only staying at a Universal hotel for one night, do we get the front of the line privilege for both the day we check in and the next day when we check out?

Do you need to buy tickets and hotel reservations in a package like at Disney in order to get the FOTL?

I always book room and buy my own tickets ,usually works out cheaper
