We have only sailed in forward rooms (Dream and Fantasy) and have been pleased with them.
We heard more wave crashing noise (at least that is what we assume it was) on deck 5 than 9, but it wasn't overwhelming for us. Our deck 9 room creaked a lot more in return
A few tips:
- when you get on board and are finally allowed to go to your room, do NOT take the midship elevators... walk to the fwd elevators and take them (or walk the stairs, which with a room on deck 5 might be doable depending how many carryon bags you have). While the fwd elevators will be busy, they will be nowhere near as busy as the midship ones.
- we tried to use the stairs as much as possible, up and down. Deck 5 and Deck 9 were both good for this.
- if you plan to do laundry, the nearest/easiest laundry room may be the one on deck 2 -- it is right beside the aft elevators & stairs and therefore really easy to get to; vs the one on deck 6 we had been planning to go to which would have meant a lot of backtrack walking -- fortuantely i ran into our stateroom host on the way and he pointed me to the deck 2 laundry.
- you CAN walk the length of the ship on deck 5 -- learn how to do it (it is a bit twisty) and it will make getting from point A to B much easier -- also, you will discover the easy way to get to the theatres
