Forward on Magic in the Mediterranean and motion sickness.

I have done three TAs on the Magic but all in mid/aft. I was in a a secret porthole room recently on a 5 day and loved it as there was no real movement much at all. That’s my only experience being forward. I have booked a sideways inside forward room on deck 5 ( never done inside before) for the Mediterranean but worried it might cause seasickness for my daughter who tends to be bothered more by motion. For those who have sailed this route in June, was motion in forward a big issue?

We didn’t do the Mediterranean on DCL, but when we did it in June 2016 on Carnival, the water was like glass. It was the smoothest of the 10 cruises we’ve been on. We did have great weather over the 9 days, but we really felt no movement at all. Hope that helps.

We did a WBTA in Sept. and had rough seas for two days. Between DCL changing up the TA routes and the random weather, I don't know if it is easy to predict what a future cruise might experience. When we did it we were forward (6018) and didn't experience too much rocking. We try to get forward staterooms because they are close to the adult areas up top and the theater below. I would recommend taking some motion medications of some sort with you for almost any cruise, just in case. Good luck!

In case you happen to not already be aware, there are complimentary packets of seasick pills available at Guest Services and in a big bin outside the Health Center! The key is to take it BEFORE you feel bad.

honesty I think the forward vs. midship thing is overstated. it never feels significantly different for me between the two. If the boat is rocking, it's rocking everywhere. if it's smooth, it's smooth everywhere.

I never understand why people are so reluctant to take Bonine with them just in case. The generic is literally less than $6 for 100 pills on Amazon. Could save a cruise that cost you $1000's.

We were forward (not all the way but in the chunk of rooms between mid and forward elevators, which seems to be roughly below where you will be) on deck 1 in the Med and it was fine. The Med was incredibly smooth except for the last day, and our room felt much better than the movie theater which is aft.

We were on the same cruise, in room 6006, ( we must have been neighbours), and I had motion sickness. Even my husband felt unwell. We were a bit more forward than you. I don’t think I would stay that far forward again.

I was in a sideways inside stateroom on deck 6 last June for the Med. No issues at all except the last day when it seemed we were moving pretty fast and rocking bit. I remember this distinctly b/c I was crouched over trying to pack with my suitcase on the floor and fell back onto the floor. Other than that I didn't notice any major motion issues. Really the one place that I notice motion in an inside stateroom is in the bathroom for some reason, and I've cruised 12 cruises in an inside stateroom.

We were in 5513 for our Med cruise last June, which is a forward sideways stateroom. The Med cruise was the smoothest cruise of the 6 we've been on. Most of the time I completely forgot we were even on the water.

Generally the Med is very smooth. I was in a forward-facing ocean view cabin on Royal's Brilliance of the Seas (meaning I overlooked the helipad and bow of the ship) and barely knew it.

Until the last night when we were crossing from Italy to Barcelona. The Med does sometimes have pop-up storms that are not predicted (at the noon report, the captain said there was nothing but smooth sailing predicted for the remainder of the voyage), and we hit one. Waves were crashing over the bow, the winds were howling, and we were rocking and rolling. I LOVED it and had zero issues (but then again, personally if I got seasick, I'd skip cruising - I don't want to spend my vacation having to take medicine just to enjoy it).

So just know that unless you're hugging the coast, there can be a rogue storm that comes up out of nowhere.

That's the room I booked! I am really looking forward to trying a sideways room for my first inside experience. We had 5020, one of the secret porthole rooms on a five day in March to Mexico and it was fine. 5513 isn't much further forward. Some of the TAs have been quite rolling as we crossed the Atlantic but never enough to make me seasick. We were mid or aft for all of them however. My youngest is the one who seems to feel it the most. Good to know.

The TA last September did roll a lot. We were mid aft in a Navigator and it really didn't both me very much but did get to my daughter a bit. My room next year is further back than 6006 so hoping it won't been too bad in the Mediterranean.

I really liked 5513. The sideways stateroom seemed really big. The only thing I didn't like was that I could see light around the door at night. I could have closed the room divider curtain to avoid that though. I didn't because my daughter doesn't like it closed between us when she is up on the top bunk. It really wasn't too big of a deal. It was a good nightlight for going to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
We are doing the TA in September. I hope it's not too rough. It doesn't really bother me when it is, but it is just more pleasant, of course, when things are smoother.

Our experiences in the Med have been mostly with water like glass. I think maybe one day each cruise had water a little rough, but nothing to really bother you.
