My dear friends,

Thank you for all the responses regarding my question about DVC. While we haven't made a final decision, we're leaning more toward "no" than "yes". Our last trip was at All Star Sports (at a Florida resident rate yet) and we have no problem with the value resorts so it's probably not good for us (so far).

Another situation we are considering, and this leads me to my next question, is buying some camping equipment and going to Fort Wilderness a few times a year including the Gay Days. Are there any Fort Wilderness regulars here? How friendly are they to the GLBT's on the DIS FW Board?

Luv 'n' Stuff,

Bob and Bruce,

Please come and visit the Camping board. They are very friendly and will answer any and all questions you may have. I know 'cause I've had plenty. We are going in our pop-up camper for a week to celebrate our 23 year anniversary. We're taking our baby with us, our 4# chihuahua. He's a cutie!
This will be our first trip to the "fort' in like 15 years. We can't wait! If anyone's there, come say HI! We'll be in the 300 loop with our Pooh flag flying.

Blessings,
Winnie

I LOVE FW. I grew up camping, and while I've never stayed there let's just say I used to visit 5 days a week....

That being said, the crowd there tends to be very laid back. Every year at Gaydays (and sometimes again in the fall) a group called "The Rainbow RV Group" comes through. They put up a big banner across the road in the loop where they are staying (they normally have 15-30 sites), and set up all sorts of flags (as well as animatronic light-up flamingos and such). I don't remember any complaints, although I have heard people mention they like to walk or ride a golf cart through that loop to see if any new decorations have been set up :rotfl2:

I LOVE FW.

ME TOO! ME TOO!   I cannot even imagine staying anywhere else. The quiet and peaceful atmosphere is an awesome counterpoint to all the stuff going on in the parks. In the evenings, I love going down to Bay Lake and watching the electric water parade and Wishes from the shore.
Our next family trip is planned for this coming spring and Tuck, Stuie, Ricky and I are SO GONNA camp!!! Up until last fall when I took a quickie solo trip, we had always stayed in one of the cabins but now I am totally sold on tent-camping. My oldest son and his family will be still be staying in a cabin (4 liddle kiddles under the age of 7 require more containment than what a tent can offer) and I think my second son and his family are probably planning to stay at one of the value resorts.
There is plenty to do at FW too -- bingo, movies, boating, pony rides, marshmallow roasts and more -- if you are so inclined. Personally, I just like the relaxed atmosphere but still only being a boat-ride away from the monorail.

How can I get in touch with this Rainbow RV group?

Hmm, I know 2 of the gentlemen in it (one used to work at FW, the other works at Company D at Disney University). I'll see if I can track them down :)

I've often been intrigued by the idea of Fort Wilderness but when I start thinking about staying there as a possibility, Joe just reminds me that I would likely end up killing him if we did, then blame him for it. Camping aint my gig.

There's always the cabins. They have full kitchens, charcoal grills, AC, cable TV, and DVD/VCR combos. They also have a bed in the living room and a seperate bedroom, just in case Joe needed a place to hide... :rotfl2:

Thought of those too. And Joe then got his "HELLS no" look on his face.

I think he thinks we put the toitty in hoitty toitty or something.

But they're woodsy and rustic and fun!!

(Newer-ish. You can see the TVs are about twice as big now.)
