Ok so everyone seems to be onboard with Fort!!!! Yeah!! I think it is going to be so much fun. We stayed in the cabins in 2003, and are heading back this August with our own RV now. Really enjoyed the peace and quiet at the Fort and how relaxed it is. We've stayed at many of the other resorts, including two adjoining rooms at the Value Resorts. Two bathrooms can be a plus, but the nearby comfort stations are very clean and well furnished.
When we go every Oct. We always stay in only one room at POR (last Oct. it was all 5 of us). so I know about tight quarters. We have been there done that and can do it again if we need too. I think these will be fond memories for your little one. Not the easiest way to go, but kids love having all that attention too!
The extra room will be great. Especially now that DS is walking. Having a bedroom will be great so DS & DD can go to bed when they are tired and everyone else doesn't have to be quiet! My DD can make a homemade pot of spaghetti one night ('cause thats what he always wants one night on vacation) Yeah! One of the best reasons for choosing the Fort and either a cabin or RV!
Is there any chance we could rent a golf cart for just a couple days when we get there? Yes, if you call ahead and reserve, but not likely to be available if you just walk up and ask.
Does anyone know when the pools are going into renovation? Not sure on the schedule, probably after the hot summer months. They are doing some improvements to the campsites now.
How are the bugs there? Are they worse there then the rest of property? They were not bad, actually don't remember any at all from Nov 2003 - of course, I have a hard time remembering what I had for lunch some days, so that's probably not very reliable!
See the answers above in blue. A few people on the camping board have tried and really enjoyed renting the fifth wheel rig provided by the people at:
http://www.campatthefort.com
What is nice about their company is that they set it up for you at whatever site you rent, they provide the necessities like bedding, cookware, and they take care of the trailer after. Most other rental companies have that as a separate cost which can add up after a while. Especially not having to pay rental insurance for moving a rental RV over the road.
I hope you try it and enjoy it. By the way, Rhonda - who is the moderator on the camping board, is also a travel agent who works for the company that sponsors these boards and can help you with your planning. I think she prefers that to cleaning up after all the mess we leave on the camping board every day !
