Fort Wilderness Easing Mask Requirements

Do you mean that my favorite Fort activity will be gone?
Riding around on the golf cart at 15mph, on the road, 50 yards away from another human, all while wearing a mask!
Next you're going to tell me that Trail's End and 'Ohana will be open again. Just drive that stake through my heart! No fun left for us!
Don don't worry Dr Van Helsing is coming on Monday and he assures me that once he performs the prescribed treatment You will be at peace

Nothing better than taking in the beautiful scenery and that big deep breath of fresh air at the Fort! Life is good!

While the rest of us will Ask, "Who is that behind theose Foster Grant's ?" the good Dr won't.

Wohoo for baby steps!
I hope that masks are gone by our Feb trip, we will postpone if not, but"good 'ol Iger" said they hope masks will be gone by the end of 2021.
Now if only they would finish Tron by then.

Any formal word on this yet? The only thing I've seen is the photo adjustment that was announced on 4/8. I'd love to see some changes in the outdoor settings like the Fort, but haven't seen anything official.

Nothing formal from Disney. My source is the TA that arranged for last October Dis Meet in Ft W. Have seen posts on some Ft W related FB pages where people say they are riding around MASK FREE. More than a few have indicated that Mask Enforcement Rangers have been removed from Major intersections and traffic points

Just read an article on AllEARS that Mayor of Orange county , Mayor Demmings the current restrictions regarding both social distancing and masks MAY be easing in the near future. He did say they are in the process of creating a phased reduction plan. He did say mask won't be eliminated immediately in his words That is likely months away

Ok, that was a comment but still....

We returned from a stay at Old Key West the day before Easter. I can say that I very seldom saw anyone wearing a mask when outside running or walking from their car to their unit. People were wearing masks at and in the main building area. It was hit or miss at the bus stop, seemed like they would put it on when someone walked up or got nearer to them.

stayed at Ft Wilderness last week and rented golf cart. Was told at front desk upon check in that masks were no longer required when using the cart. Next day while riding with son in law, sans masks, a resort bus actually stopped her bus and yelled and motioned to us out her window that we needed to get our masks on. Wasn’t nice about it either, which I get. If indeed it was required. So....they need to get everyone on the same page because we drove back to front desk and asked again if masks were required while on the cart and again were told no.

Inconsistencies in general were my complaint on our trip in September. There was a wide scale of conservative vs. liberal on enforcement. Some CMs were super strict while others were as if you weren't even there.

I'd appreciate some common sense relaxations outdoor. Last summer when we went, my teenager was jogging (cross country training) and was told he had to keep his mask on. It was over 90 degrees, so that was downright dangerous. In both February and March of this year, he was also running around the resort, and had a mask with him, but didn't wear it and nobody said anything. He is careful to stay away from other people and run in the evening, but still - common sense.

We're going very soon and I am going to wear my mask like I do in my state which is strict, I am wearing in all indoor places and outdoors if I get close to someone within 6 feet. We are walking the dog and riding our bikes around without our masks otherwise. Hopefully all will be ok. If I get into a very crowded outdoor area where people are within a couple feet of one another I will put it on. I will keep one with me while outdoors but will not wear unless come close to another. If a bus driver yells at me like someone mentioned above, I will tell them bug off I am within Fort rules.

I hope you complained about the bus driver as they need to let their staff drivers know the new rules.

Walking into AK yesterday from parking lot to main entrance, I mean health checkpoint, a sanitary engineer (trash removal specialist) reminded the couple behind us to put their masks on. Outside, plenty of social distance, but rules are rules, I guess.

At Ft. Wilderness right now, 400 loop. Was told at check in to wear masks indoors but not needed outside while social distancing. Also said to have one ready if we are challenged. So far walking everywhere outside, to the dog park, dock, walking dog all around loops we have not worn masks. Inside shops and waiting in line at Crockett’s Tavern we wore masks.

Challenged by whom and in what circumstance? That seems like an odd comment to make. I would have one on me as you never know when you might find yourself not able to distance, but the notion of being 'challenged' about usage in circumstance where it is not required seems like an invitation for problems.

I think its the perception of how far social distanced you are. So you may get challenged if someone thinks your closer then the 6 foot requirement. Perception is everything.

Because 5' 6" may be offensive to some people, so keeping it handy to keep the peace.

Makes sense. Sounds like they mean challenged by other guests, not CMs.

I don’t remember the cast member’s exact words but that’s how I took it. I assume the caution because rules are changing and social distancing can be vague. On our second day here now after check in and zero issues being maskless anywhere outside. We just mask up going into trading posts, P&J’s, waiting in line at Crockett’s.
