Fort Wilderness DVC??? Partial plans found

I thought I would bring over the following image from the news breaking camping forum the news breaking camping thread. It is an overlay of the leaked plans on google earth image along with a guesstimate of what the rest of the resort would look like. I think Shan-man did an excellent job and Raven on WDWmagic did comment that it was pretty close.

Here is a whack at the TCD vision:

Just an interesting note: the lodge (as we've been calling it) is larger than Pioneer Hall even without the porches. The porches make it much larger. I still don't quite buy that the parking will be where the stables are now... who wants the suites that look out onto a parking lot? I think the main parking may still be across the road, with a lot of emphasis on cart-based bell-service.

For those not as familiar with FW as the campers, I also brought over this original post by Tri-circle-D on the camping forum, The Rumors Are True! Goodbye River Country and TCD Barn!, especially for the great labeled images.

The rumor about a big new project at Fort Wilderness has been confirmed.

The TCD gang is just back from a quick weekend warrior visit to the Fort.

We enjoyed a Haunted Carriage Ride on October 2, 2010.

When we reported to the Blacksmith Shop, we saw this sign:

I asked the castmember on duty what the heck this was all about.

She spilled the beans.

All of them.

In great detail.

The horse barn and farm area are moving.

And River Country is finally going to be leveled.

She has seen the plans for the new barn.

It will be relocated up at the Outpost area. The old kennel building has been turned over to horse operations. All of the horses will be moved to this area.

Take a look at this photo:

The horse barn, pavilion, and River Country are all going to be leveled.

But, that's not all.

The area where the 100 loop label is on this photo is also going to be leveled. It is going to be the new staging area for wagon rides and other horse activities. This is the area between the path to the marina and Pioneer Hall. It is currently a densely wooded area. The 100 loop isn't going anywhere. Just the wilderness that separates it from Pioneer Hall.

And, the area just above and to the right of the Settlement Trading Post label is where a new pavilion will be built.

The Haunted Carriage Rides will take place somewhere else next year.

In the place of all of this will be a new DVC resort.

For those of you who say there is not enough room, take a look at these photos:

Here is an aerial of the Bay Lake area:

BayLake-1.jpg

If you look just below the "o" in the Wilderness Lodge label, you will see a thin brown building. Those are the WL villas- a DVC property. As you can see, a building much bigger than that could fit in the space we are talking about in Fort Wilderness.

Here is an aerial of the Contemporary Resort (taken with the same scale as the Fort Wilderness photo):

As you can see, the space being freed up at Fort Wilderness could easily accommodate a building as large as Bay Lake Tower, or even the main Contemporary tower, for that matter.

Apparently, this project will kick off sometime between now and next October.

And, there will be specific information on-line by July, 2011.

Has everyone seen this design for a DVC before?? I hadn't and it was a bit surprising to me. Cosmos on another DVC board posted it.

I'm not sure where it would be located. It would seem to need a coast or lake front property. Would it be for this site? :confused3 If it is a very different theme so I don't think they would want it so very close to FW.

Wow, this "rumor" is certainly picking up steam fast. :drive:

I still dont see the Poly or Grand Floridian mentioned tho :sad1:

1,208 rooms? That sounds alot bigger than what has been discussed before at FW. Completion date 2012? That's pretty aggressive considering it's almost 2011. I don't know, the FW site does not seem "California" to me, unless they are using a "gold rush" theme.

This will be fun to watch develop. I hope it becomes a New DVC Resort.

Yes, this will be entertaining!

Hypothetically speaking, I wonder if this could fit on the far side of Bay Lake? Opposite the Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge. I wonder if they'd put in some type of boardwalk with some evening entertainment? :confused3 Or is that where that new 'vacation home' development is going? Guess we'll just have to wait and see!

I think this is the new resort next to Disney Hollywood Studios.

There had been talk of a new DVC resort near Blizzard Beach. It's possible this is that one.

DVC is expanding way too fast for my taste. At the rate this is going, one day everything will be part of DVC in the Disney World.

I agree 100%! i have been saying this for YEARS!

Before long it will be called Walt Disney Vacation Club World. :sad2:

You forgot to end it with "... Presented by Siemens"

(since they laser write that on the EPCOT 'ball' after illuminations)

I would have to disagree on this (although I am a DVC member and that could be be viewed as me being bias). If you look at the room totals throughout WDW DVC is an extremely small portion of what is out there. Many DVC resorts are actually part of a regular "Cash" resort (ie Beach Club, Boardwalk, Animal Kingdom etc) and if you look at the room totals for those resorts you will see that the DVC portion is way smaller then the "cash" designated rooms.

I have a hard time understanding how DVC could be a bad thing (even if you are not interested in purchasing). It is simply a portion of rooms that are designated to its members. The rooms would be built anyway (supply and demand) because Disney wants more people coming to the parks and spending money. IMHO with or without "DVC" the room totals we have today would be the same regardless (they would just all be cash rooms).

Just my 2 cents.

Actually I pretty much agree with this concept. With every member that is added, rooms are added as well. It doesn't affect availability, but means that more people will compete at 7 months for other resorts. If DVC was only two resorts, yes you have less competition, but also less selection. The more resorts, the more selection, but also more people.

If DVC really wants to continue to expand in markets like Hawaii, they need a bigger presence in WDW...or those people will never be able to make it to Disney. They need to grow both the off site locations (to places that onsite guests will book) and continue to grow WDW locations.

The problem that is some resorts are more popular than others, which does affect availability. So some resorts are difficult to get into under 7 months while others have plenty of rooms. Resorts were built and sold with the line "buy here, stay anywhere". I think another "mega resort" not within walking distance to a park will make that worse.

From the maps I've seen, if the California themed resort is built near CSR and BB, it could be walking distance to DHS. In addition, it could be walking distance to BB. Additionally, it should have very good bus access to MK, Epcot, and AK from this area.

The 1200 room resort fits the theme and size for rumored spot west of DHS. I would guess that there would be a good chance that it might be a combination resort (part CRO part DVC)

I can not figure any way that they could get 1200 units between VWL and FW since all indications are that the soils can not support a mid rise.

You are right, but same thing goes, lets say they only built OKW and BWV, the first two WDW resorts. BCV would still be smaller and everyone from OKW would want in at 7 months...everything would basically be the same. Right now there are 7 different resorts, yes some are small, yes some are larger.....sure some people won't get what they want, but it really hasn't decreased the odds of changing resorts at 7 months, just might adjust based on trends out there.

OKW used to be bashed prior to SSR for not being near a park and how they were booking rooms elsewhere, now SSR is that resort and it has been slacking off more and more and AKV has taken some of that heat off of SSR.

I think the real trend is new owners are much more likely to "resort shop" to try out other places, before they settle down and learn where they like and where they don't like. Whenever you have a major influx of owners (look at all the BLT owners trading out at 7 months) you are going to have this affect magnified, but in the end, the same number of rooms per points exists for booking. The difference is that now there are seven choices instead of two or three. If they build another there will be 8 choices......sure you might not get the one you want, but a smaller membership with less resorts/rooms wouldn't necessarily help that.

Probably not, I am sure they would do something like combine transportation with Coronado Springs or something....LOL No one can have good bus service and walking distance, its not in the DVC formula!
