Has anyone gone to Ft. Wilderness to roast marshmallows etc. at their campfire? I've heard Chip and Dale are here as well...can you tell me about this? Do you have to make a reservation to go, or do you just show up?

I took my kids this summer we were too late for the roasting marshmallows and Chip and Dale part but we got there just as the movie was starting. No ressies needed just show up.

How far ahead of time do you suggest that a family get there by?

Allow lots of time... it takes awhile using 'inside' bussing transportation to get to the actual campfire site.

We loved it on our last trip (I went alone on a solo trip- took the family on the next family trip).
There are benches to sit at (and little bleachers behind the benches), plus 2 places to sit around the fire and roast marshmallows. You can bring your own stuff- or buy little "smores kits" from the small snack stand there (including marshmallows, graham crackers, chocolate bars, and I believe 4 sticks... or maybe it was 2 but I think it was 4. LOL). Bring blankets or warm clothing if it is during the time of year that it gets cold at night- the first time I went I had to leave (it was Jan and I wasn't prepared well) because it was SOOOO COLD. But when the family went late Nov we didn't need as much covering. It's late by the time the movie is over- so plan ahead if you think it will get cold.

The snack stand sells a few other things like nachos, drinks and such.

If it's still the same- they have someone singing and getting everyone to sing along, then Chip & Dale come out, sing... spend a FEW moments mingling with crowd (ie: posing for pictures/signing autographs) and then the movie starts. You can roast marshmallows through all of this if you want. There's a bathroom along a little path behind the snack shop btw.

We're planning on doing this again!

We were there in Sept. 01. We showed up about 15 min. before. The seats are bench type, in an open arena type setting. There was plenty of room the whole time. You would just walk up to the open kettle type fire and stand in a circle, roast your marshmallow, go sit and eat, and go back to the fire again to roast. I think I remember paying for the bag of marshmallows, like 50 cents, sticks came with it.

I would check with guest services when you check in so you know which movie is running which night and hten decide when you want to go. The night i took my kids pinocchio was playing. They had never seen it before, It was really cool cause my DS recognized the characters (gepetto adn pinocchio) in the parks and jiminy crick ( as he calls him) on the safety signs in the room.

You can drive to Ft Wilderness, but you must use their buses to get around inside the grounds. You park your car in the lot and then wait at the bus stop to get to where you'd like to go.

We are seeing Hoop Dee Doo Review at 5:00 on 3/28 - does it work out to go to the campfire for a while afterward? Is it anywhere near each other?
Thanks!

This is an unofficial Fort Wilderness Campground site:

disneycampers.com

They post the movie schedule.

Pioneer Hall (where the Hoop Dee Doo is located) is just a short bus ride (or even an easy walk) from the campfire area. I don't know how long the Hoop Dee Doo lasts, but from what I recall the movie is typically over around 10 p.m., so you would have plenty of time to roast some marshmallows and I'm sure see most of (if not all of)the movie.

Just an FYI -

disneycampers.com no longer posts the movie schedule.

Anyone have the listing for February yet?

I know this isn't on topic, but our kids loved the Campfire and movie the couple times we've done it.

The first time we went our middle son was eating a hot dog he had cooked on the campfire and he smiled at me and one of his front teeth had gond down the gullet! It's a story we laugh about every time the campfire comes up.

Do it. It's a short walk or bus ride from the HDD (which will end at 7:15). There will probably be quite a few people waiting for the buses to take you back to the Outpost Depot to catch the buses to the various locations, so walking might be the best bet. It's probably not more than 1/2 mile to the Meadows Complex where the campfire is. Just follow the golf cart trail just to the left as you leave Pioneer Hall. It swings to the right and then head straight down the road to the Meadows. Just ask a CM if it's not clear where to go. If you try to walk where everyone catches the buses there is no walk way and it's quite dark.

The movie schedule is listed right here on these boards in the Camping board.

Wow I am soo disappointed. I may have to try this again, everyone else looked like they had a good time.

My last expirence was horrible. It was so loud you couldn't hear the movie because everyone was talking. Saw Chip and Dale for a brief moment and it was a free for all with the kids and my kids didn't get to see them, then they were gone.

Some kids took hostage of the 2 kettle campfires there and you had to reach between them to roast your marhsmellow because they just parked themselves there and didn't move. Everyone else was trying to as well and it was hard to do.

We left 5 minutes into the movie because we couldn't hardly hear it.

I was thoroughly disappointed.

We were there just a couple of weeks ago. It was a warm January night (probably around 70 degrees). Bring a blanket along even if it's warm. The kids would like to sit in the front on the ground but they really need a blanket to sit on. You can also bring hot dogs to roast in the campfire. There was a family sitting in front of us that had lots of hot dogs/buns/condiments. Their hotdogs smelled SOOOO good. I wish I would have thought to bring them, but no one ever posted that tip in any of the posts I read about FW (we stayed in the cabins this trip).

When you first get there, they have a sing a long with Chip N Dale that last probably around a 1/2 hour. Afterward, Chip N Dale walk around the seats and meet everyone. Then the movie will start. It is a large screen, kinda like a smaller version of a drive in movie screen. Tarzan was playing while we were there. We stayed for about 1/2 of it. Then we went walking around FW, and ended up taking a wagon ride. That was really fun!!!!!!!

HTH.

Are mosquitos an issue at the campfire? On a related topic, can you recommend a good bug spray for children? Thanks a lot!

I had always wanted to do this but we never seem to get over to FW. This year we are going in the summer and going to the Beach half way through the trip. I think that would be a great thing to do the night we go to the beach. Something different to look forward too. Maybe we will have dinner at Trails End too.

Thanks for bringing this up. I'm priting this out for us to talk about tonight!!
