Has anyone stayed in the cabins? How are they? Are they CLEAN? How is Mousekeeping? Can you drive to your door? How big are the cabins?

The cabins are great, and a good option for families larger than 4 members.

Cabins are around 500 sq ft. There is a living area with sofa, small table with TV and full size pull down Murphy bed, a full kitchen including dishwasher, stove, microwave, full refrigerator, and dishes and cooking utensils. The full bath has a tub/shower. The rear bedroom has another full bed, and two bunkbeds. There is a vanity area in rear and some drawers. There is a pack n play in the hall closet.

Mousekeeping is great--runs a dishwasher I don't think is full enough to run, and has left us fancy dishtowel creatures.

Outside the cabin there is a deck, picnic table, and grill.

There is room for one vehicle outside cabin (No additional tents). Be sure to bring salt and pepper, cups for bathroom, coffee and filters, and liquid dishwashing soap. Also a cookie sheet if you use any of the Glad ovenware, or like to bake Pillsbury cookies.

I can't tell you what a great economical option those cabins are. My parents are crazy about them. NOt only do they fit five very easy, but they come with a kitchen. You're paying fo ra deluxe hotel room, with deluxe benefits, PLUS paying for a kitchen.

There's a lot to do at Ft Wilderness - so much that you can conceivably spend all your time there and never step foot in a park. You can take a boat to MK or the Contemporary; my parents in particular love taking the evening boat to the Contemporary for dinner.

How far is the boat launch from the cabins? Is there a cabin REAL CLOSE to where you catch the boat?

Unfortunately, the rental cabins occupy the sites that are farthest from the boat dock. That's why a lot of people rent the little golf carts, which can zoom around where cars aren't allowed.

You can drive your car to the main gate of the campground where you check in -- there is a parking lot here and buses pick up here for the resorts. You can also take an "internal" campground bus to the area where the boat dock is, and get a boat to the MK or MK resorts. Either works fine.

The cabins are great. My husband is NOT a camper and even he enjoyed them. That said, getting around Ft. Wilderness can be a bit slow. If you have your own vehicle you would probably do best to just drive to the lot of the park or resort you want to visit.

Check out Deb Will's site (Allears.net), which has great new info and photos of the cabins.
