We just finished a cruise. The day before we left we were able to book tonight in a Fort Wilderness cabin, before flying home tomorrow. We love the cabins! They are adorable! Think they are well designed and decorated. The only complaint I have is that they are considered a 1 BR but there is no laundry in the cabin. Look forward to staying here again in the future.

We’re booked in one for Nov. What loop are you in?

Glad you liked them! I have a week booked in November and another week booked in December. As an avid cash payer at Ft Wilderness the last 20 years, I decided to buy a DVC contract for a fixed week in December. Love the Fort!

We were in 2300. The only other DVC loop right now is 2500 but there was a lot of construction going on.
How long is the walk from 2300 to the main buses to the parks? If you used the internal buses, how was that process?

I miss staying in the old cabins - last time for me was 2015. Once I bought DVC in 1996, I haven't spent as much time there, but they used to be an annual family trip. After DVC, I stayed in the cabins 3 times transferring points...but that was really a bad deal by comparison. Now, I've got a January trip booked for the new cabins, golf cart rented already, and am really looking forward to it. Unless I end up really disliking it for some reason, I can definitely see it becoming a more regular stay at least once a year again, especially as the points value works out great for me.

Funny, I usually travel either solo or with one friend, so the cabin layout works well enough even though not a true equivalent to a 1-bedroom...and I rarely ever do laundry since my trips are typically 4-5 days, and I drive there so I can bring all the clothes I want. The point value is excellent for someone like me, as it's better equipped than a studio and a lot cheaper than a 1-bedroom anywhere. Glad to hear others reporting that they enjoyed the experience - makes me more confident I will have all the same old feelings and memories of the annual family stays.

Google maps says it's about 3/4 of a mile to the main bus depot. The average walking speed 3/mph, so it should take about 20 minutes (or a little less) to walk.

The Cabins have 3 bus stops (for loops 2200 - 2300, 2400 - 2600 and 2700 - 2800) and are serviced by the Orange route. There are stops on each side of the road, so you wait and board the bus from the side that's headed in the direction you want to go.

Is there free laundry available for DVC cabins? (I know there is non in-cabin) Thanks

Yes - there are laundry machines at the Comfort Station by the pool area. There were some questions whether they're free for DVC - some reported that they were able to start the machines without paying.

Thanks for the info!

I need a HA cabin, and am considering booking one at 7 months because I also have happy memories of staying in cabins with my family. I will be using internal buses because I use an ECV. Any reports of using an ECV at a DVC cabin? I will probably be booking two nights of a 5 night WDW stay. We probably would only be going to MK during our cabin stay.

It would be very disappointing if they had actually charged for the laundry facilities.

The pool facility in the cabin loop was temporarily closed so we had to use the RV facility location. I believe Disney disabled the pay requirement without posting it. We simply pushed start and they worked. I believe RV patrons unaware continued to pay.

How far from the DVC cabins would the washer /dryer area be? I mentioned to DD, her family can fit for only hundred something in points, and she replied no washer/dryer. So guess that's a no.

That's a bummer, they really just put a sign up so people don't waste their money.

Well that depends on the loop (of course), @jo-jo .

Currently IIRC loop 2500 has been converted to DVC and it is (as an entire loop) the closest to the laundry facility at the cabin 'quiet pool' area. The nearest portion of 2500 is literally a stone's throw from the W/D.

Depending on when they travel, 2200 loop is currently the furthest away loop (under construction) which depending on if you are on the near end or far end is AT MOST a half mile from the W/D.

That's a 10 minute walk or a 2-minute drive/drop-off max.

If proximity to laundry is a concern, request a cabin in 2500 loop.

:rotfl2:But they do read the DIS.

Especially the DVC boards since DVC is now in Fort Wilderness.

We campers can save our precious quarters which are a round-off on owner DVC dues. But obviously the W/D cost (in those expensive quarters) is still a concern (based on your post) for DVC owners/guests. The distance is immaterial.

@bobbiwoz , we did not stay in a DVC cabin but DW and I did stay in a regular HA cabin in January 2024. We had been camping in a FW campsite in the days prior and wanted to stay in a cabin on our last night so we asked for a "first available" and a HA cabin is what they gave us.

It was extra wide (like the DVC HA cabins are), had the over-sized bathroom with a roll-in/out shower, so a DVC version should be fine for you. Of course, make sure you book a HA cabin when you use the Disney resort reservation booking tool.

Two of the the three internal bus lines (Purple and Orange) come thru the cabin loops and can accomodate your ECV and they will take you to the Settlement Bus Depot (down by Bay Lake) to get to MK. A Bus runs from the same Settlement Bus Depot to the MK bus stations and the big boat runs from the boat dock to MK which also can accomodate an ECV. You can choose which one to use.

Bus or boat doesn't matter as each one starts about the same time in the morning to get guests to MK and runs continuously all day. So yeah a few more steps to go thru to get to MK but you do get to drive in and park at your cabin (front door service) at the resort so that's a trade-off.

Good luck and have a great time.

If I’m not mistaken, DVC resorts have free laundry on the DVC side only, not rental side. I would guess that the cabin laundry loops would be free, not the entire resort? I could be wrong.
