Fort Wilderness Cabins

Well that depends on the loop (of course), @jo-jo .

Currently IIRC loop 2500 has been converted to DVC and it is (as an entire loop) the closest to the laundry facility at the cabin 'quiet pool' area. The nearest portion of 2500 is literally a stone's throw from the W/D.

Depending on when they travel, 2200 loop is currently the furthest away loop (under construction) which depending on if you are on the near end or far end is AT MOST a half mile from the W/D.

That's a 10 minute walk or a 2-minute drive/drop-off max.

If proximity to laundry is a concern, request a cabin in 2500 loop.

Yeah, I'm an idiot when it comes to camping/Fort Wilderness. I know it's big, no idea how big, no concept of where the pools are or anything like that. My experience with FW is taking boat over, eating at trails end and walking a bit to see Christmas decoration.

My entire camping life has been sleeping in a tent in someone backyard (It was a BIG backyard LOL) with cub scouts.

Just got back from Labor Day weekend at the new cabins and we absolutely loved them. We were in the 2500 loop and it was pretty convenient. Loved being able to drive right to the front door for loading and unloading.

@bama_ed , I will also thank you for all of your insight. The Fort really is a special place. Loops 2300 and 2500 are open and it looked like they are close with the 2200 loop. They had also started on 2800.

One thing I will say is I see a lot of people commenting that "they don't like the look of the new cabins" or they "don't fit in like the old cabins". Well, all I'll say is that in our opinion, the new cabins look infinitely better than the old ones. I really think that they look better in person than they come across in pictures.

If I’m not mistaken, DVC resorts have free laundry on the DVC side only, not rental side. I would guess that the cabin laundry loops would be free, not the entire resort? I could be wrong.

Rental versus owner side is a detail down in the weeds that I don't really care about, TBH.

I find it hard to think that the DVC Owner side would travel beyond the cabin loop laundry station (there is only one at the cabin/quiet pool location) to find a place to do laundry even if the entire FW was free laundry. Not to be flippant but the owner complaints about having to pay for laundry (even temporarily during conversions) is amusing to me given that it's roundoff in what I see for the dues/maintenance cost. I used the "quarters" reference but now it's all credit card driven yet it still seems to be a concern.

A year from now, it will all be worked out.

Please enjoy your stay(s) at Fort Wilderness, @bobbiwoz, but it is probably more "wilderness" than you have encountered at WDW (the buzzards, turkeys, love bugs, etc.). Keep in mind that it was one of Walt's original resorts (along with the Contemp and Poly) which celebrated the 50th anniversary not long ago. It's a treasure we want to savor and not churn through.

PS - bobbiwoz, glad you got a reservation. Please come back during/after and let us know how it is/was. I neglected to mention but of course the DVC cabins (and the legacy one I stayed in) have a ramp from the parking spot in front up to the wood deck that is how you enter the cabin.

@tidefan, I'm curious to know what you thought of the tv angle on the wall of the main room but the loveseat/murphy was to the side. If I wanted to watch a 3.5-4.0 hour college football game in that setup, my neck might give out from looking to the side (because my rear end will always be looking for the most comfortable place to set itself). My preference is to sit directly across/in-front-of the tv.

What did you think?

Not a problem at all. I watched all 63 points from the chair on the other side while DW lounged on the couch.

You can also sort of rearrange the table chairs for more seating if you wanted to.

What’s the situation with pool towels and the new cabins? I know the fort doesn’t provide towels at pools and that will most likely come as a shock to most DVC folks 😬 do they give you towels to take to the pool in the cabins? We drive so I have no issue bringing our own but then there is the whole issue of drying them 🤪

The only 1 bedroom villas on property without pool towels and in-unit laundry. A deluxe resort, indeed.

That's exactly how I think of it - though I haven't been in the new cabins, I've been in the old many times and the square footage is about the same. I slot it right in between a studio and 1-bedroom...it has some separation of the bedroom from the murphy, and has a full kitchen, but with the bathroom out by the living room and not en-suite, it has a bit more of a divided one-box feel like a studio. I could see if I was a parent with kids, I'd probably give the master to the kids - with the queen and two bunks accommodating 3-4 kids, and using the murphy in the living room for the adults - who may stay up later, enjoy the kitchen and deck later in the evening, and have the bathroom closer. The kids of course may still need to come through to use the bathroom.

Now as someone traveling solo or a couple with no kids, that's where the cabin really stands out as a great option vs a studio - a lot less points than any 1-bedroom, and still enough space and conveniences like the full kitchen. Really looking forward to my January stay in the new cabins - now I just have to hope I can score one of the back-of-the-loop ones with nothing behind but woods - rather than the ones closer to the main road and bus stops. If 2800 is being worked on now, that's good news as it's a big loop and has lots of cabins that don't up to roads or other loops.

I agree with you, that setup is terrible!

Does anybody have an activity schedule for Fort Wilderness??? I’m interested in staying in the cabins but am curious as to the daily activities vs a more traditional resort.
