Hi,
My husband, 13 month old daughter, and I will be staying at the Fort Wilderness cabins for 5 nights May 15th. We are going with friends of ours and their 2 boys (ages 3 & 5). None of us has ever stayed here before, and I don't know anyone who has. We though it would fun for the kids, and I've never had a negative experience at any Disney Resort. but I'd love to hear a testimonial from someone who has stayed here. Also if you know if they have the refillable cups- there is no food court, so I'm guessing they don't (I love those cups). Thanks in advance :)

No refillable cups as far as I am aware. Cabins are nice but small (about 500 sg ft or the size of two AS rooms). Bedroom has full and bunks (though not much room to move around in it), living room has pull down full bed (and when down there is little room left there). Nice having a small kitchen and very large porch. You park at the cabin and they are in heavily wooded area and likely to see peacocks or armadillos once in a while outside. FW is very spread out resort. Cabins are near a pool but 1/2mile to a mile from anything else on site. Main activity area is Pioneer Hall/Trading Post area, where restaurant, bar, main store, Hoop Dee Doo, petting zoo, pony rides, American outdoor barbecue, hay rides are, and cabins are all 3/4 mile to a mile from it. Cabins are in various loops which each hold 40 or more cabins and there are bus stops outside of the loops. Internal busses take you to Pioneer Hall area where you pick up boat to MK and busses to other parks (shared with WL). Recommend having a car to drive anywhere other than MK. All are air-conditioned and daily maid service is provided (though you have dishes and a diswasher, the CM's will clean dishes by putting them in and running diswasher).

We have stayed at the cabins twice, first time DD was 2.5 second time 3.5. This is one of our favorite places to stay. We really liked the idea of having a "home" to go back to in the evenings and for naps. Depending on where your cabins are located you might want to consider renting a golf cart for your stay. I think they are around $35 a day. The campfire is lots of fun. Yes they do have refillable mugs available at Crockett's Tavern. If you have specific questions ask and I will try and answer you. There is someone who post here with the user name Fortwilderness (not sure how they spell it) who if I remember right has stayed here at least 10 times who could probably tell you everything you ever wanted to know and more. There is also a website devoted to Ft. Wilderness. http://home.hiwaay.net/~jlspence/faq_fw.htm

I think you will love the cabins, we've stayed in them several times and always enjoy it. Not sure if you'll use it but there is a pack-n-play in the closet there, I noticed it last visit. We always rent a golf cart, it's much more convenient than the buses, but expensive! Make sure to spend a day there just exploring...for instance the petting zoo, pony rides, playgrounds, etc. My kids think Fort Wilderness is just the greatest! The maid service is terrific, whenever we would come back we would find the towels folded in different shapes and the kid's dolls having a party! Have a wonderful trip!!!:D

FW is a wonderful resort especially if you have children. I would highly recommend calling ahead and reserving a golf cart at the Bike Barn. There is so much to do there. Dont miss the campfire with Chip & Dale. The refillable cups are available at the Trails End with refills available there and limited availability at the Meadows Trading Post. We just got a few cups last month. The cabins have a full kitchen and these great decks where you can sit outside and enjoy the atmosphere. This is the one resort where you really feel like you are getting away from it all. You might want to go to www.disneyzone.actusa.net for a walking tour of the resort.

Come on over to the Fort Wilderness Board and visit us! We love talking about FW and the cabins! :D :D

And, yes, they do have refillable mugs - they can be filled at the Trail's End Buffet restaurant with hot & cold beverages, and at the Meadow's Trading Post with just hot beverages!

FW is our absolute favorite place to stay. I disagree with the post about them being small. They may be about 500 sq. ft. but they are laid out very nice. It is crowded when the murphy bed is pulled down, but other than that, lots of room.

We love is there. Yes, you do have to take the buses, but FW is such a picturesque place that we love to walk to everywhere. You can rent bikes, boats, do the campfire program. They have a wonderful housekeeper there who we have actually become friends with, we exchange cards & letters & always go to visit her when we are unable to stay at Ft. Wilderness.

Ask for a loop close to the pool & if you don't like to do a lot of extra walking ask for a cabin close to end or beginning of a loop.

A big plus is the convenience of the kitchen & sitting outside on the deck.

Everyone has their own opinions, but my vote is for FW over any other resort.

Thanks so much for all the great info! I'm SO excited now. I had asked the same question on another site and no one answered me :( You guys are the best!! Thanks again :):)
