Fort Wilderness Cabins

We are planning our first trip to DW next June. WE have 3 kids (10, 8, and 6) and I am trying to decide where to stay. At the moment I am leaning toward the cabins. Has anyone stayed there? Can you give me your feedback? Also, any other suggestions for a family of 5?

We stayed there in 2000. The cabin was nice but still only one bathroom for everyone. We weren't crazy about the bus system and the pool is just okay. Check out this site for info. http://home.hiwaay.net/~jlspence/faq_fw.htm

Sure can. We did our 2006 trip to WDW at the Cabins..

We had myself, wife, 2 kids (6 and 7 at time) and in-laws.

Pros:

Very relaxed location. Great to come home at night and have your own cabin. You don't have to worry about neighbors

Full kitchen and outdoor grill. We did a few meals and loved it.

Great main pool. Nothing fancy, but they do tons of kids stuff and the playground/arcade is right there. Wife and I would relax, have an adult drink and kids would spend hours there

Nightly movie and campfire. Just super family time and memories

Cons:

You should rent the golf cart. We did and was worth it, but expensive at $50 a day. Without it, you limit yourself. Plus driving around in the cart at night, we meet great people in tents/campers and made new friends.

Limited dining. If you are on Dining plan, you only have one one buffet restaurant. But with your dining in the cabin, this is a non issue if you are not on the plan.

One bathroom. With the inlaws this was an issue. I am still scarred from having the MIL using the bathroom while I was in the shower.. Someone hold me. Our next trip, we did connecting rooms at POR and that was fine.

We loved the Cabins and without the Inlaws, we would go again. The bathroom and having to share the golf cart were a challenge.

We stayed in the cabins last December, and they were great, except for transportation. We could deal with the other issues, because we only have 1 bathroom at home.

May I recommend the AS Music Family Suites, they accommodate a family of 6 plus one child under 3 in a pack and play. We haven't stayed there yet, but I have 2 trips booked at them for next year. There are a couple of great threads about them and some great photos. They are also quite a bit less than the FW Cabins. They are 520 SQ Ft, have a bedroom with a queen bed, a pull-out sofa, chair, and ottoman, 2 bathrooms, 2 closets, 2 safes, a kitchenette, 2 tv's and during Value season are $184/night. If you have AAA, you can sometimes get a room for less than $150/night.

Our first two visits at the world we stayed at the cabins and LOVED them.

Pros:
In the summer, they are great to come back too. Cool and quiet after a long hot day in the parks.

Easy access to the MK.
Electrical water parade on the beach. Really cool
Even though the pool is not themed, it is huge. My kids had tons of space to play and swim.
full kitchen. We picked up munchies, pop and water bottles and always had a snack. We would freeze the water bottles at night and have cold water all day in the parks.
Lots of things for kids to do.


Cons:
Transportation: We got around this by requesting a loop nearest the settlement depot. We got off the park bus and just walked to our cabin.


My kids some times still ask can we stay there.

How many people can stay in one cabin? How many beds are there? There are 4 adults, one 12 year old, and one 7 year old going. Is this too many in the cabin together? We don't mind sharing beds. Thanks for your help.

The cabins will sleep 6. In the bedroom is a double bed and set of bunks in the living room is a very comfy murphy bed(also a double).

My family of 5 (kids 11, 7, 6) stayed in the cabins in 2005. Loved all the space however, did not like transportation options. We are staying at POP in 2 rms this year (leaving in 2 days!).

We stayed in the cabins in Dec 2005. 4 Adults. We had plenty of room. The cabins are very nice. However, I felt very isolated being there. Transportation wasn't an issue for us because we rent a car. But you can't drive to the restaurants onsite. You can only get to them using the bus service. There are a few parking spaces at the store.

We are going agin in Dec, staying at Caribbean Beach Resort. We like to walk to the restaurants in the morning and at night. We feel that is part of the Disney Magic.

We loved the cabins! The area is beautiful, and peaceful. Nice to come back to after a day at the Parks.

Transportation...We had a rental car. It was great to be able to pull right up to our cabin after a hectic, fun day and take maybe ten steps to the front door. No other Disney hotel can you park so close to your room. We did take the boat to MK. I really enjoy boat rides, so for me this was great, too.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE the cabins and have stayed there the last 8 or 9 trips. I agree with all the previous posters about what is great about them. We dont have much issue with the transportation. We take the busses everywhere except when we eat at Boma or Ohana, then we drive there. We have never rented a golf cart and dont have any trouble getting around.
With kids it is nice having all the space inside and outside. Two Tvs is great too!

We will be there again in 58 days and I cant wait!!

We stayed in the Cabins when our children were the same ages as yours are now. We loved it. The kids shared the bedroom (1 Double, 1 Bunk Set) and each had their own bed. DH and I used the Murphy bed in the LR. It was very comfy.
We loved having a full kitchen. We ate b'fast in and always had cold drinks and snacks when we returned to the Cabin at the end of the day.
The campground is beautiful with lots to do. We loved watching the Electrical Water Pageant on the beach at night.
I would stay here again.

My sister and I stayed there with our 3 sons in 2004. It was perfect for us. We liked being able to eat a good breakfast before heading to the parks, liked having 2 TV's and plenty of space. We loved taking the launch to MK. We did not mind the bus system. We did not use our van to go to any of the parks during our vacation. I would definitely stay there again.
