I have a 7 day hold on the cabins for july 2013. the AAA rate was less than the value suites and 2 preferred value rooms.

We are DVC'ers and a family of 6. Myself, DH, DS 14,12, 6 and DD10 (all ages for next year) We always stay in a 2bdrm. We have enough points for 5 nights in a DVC 2bdrm villa. I wanted to make this trip a bit longer. We have our APs and find that our normal 8 night stay is not long enough. I though about 2 value rooms or the value suites.

Checking w/ CRO this evening he also checked the cabins and they are coming in less than the other 2 options I orginally was looking at.

my only concerns are one bathroom and the size of the beds. Are they doubles? DS14 sleeps on a full which i think is the same size as a double. Both of my older DS are big-- tall. Not sure I can get them to share a bed either.

how bad are the bugs?? DH is a city boy and I am not sure if the cabins is too much of the country for him. LOL

We will have our van so I know that is a plus.

Would you keep the cabins? or just pay $200 more for 2 value preferred rooms at ASM and get 2 bathrooms 4 beds but lose the kitchen.

any ideas or info would be greatly appreciated.

Ok these might not be for you. The beds work out like this. Living room has one full pull out bed. The main bedroom has a bunk bed they seemed like a small twin to me and one full. I love the cabins for the full kitchen, but the beds arent really for adults mainly a family with small kids.:confused3

I love the cabins, but the beds do seem small. Maybe you and DH can take the double bed, 12 & 10 year olds each in a bunk, 14 year old in murphy bed in family room & 6 year old on couch.

We enjoy the full kitchen to have breakfast most mornings. We use the grill a few times for dinner & s'mores.

FW is very relaxing!

OP here, Thanks for the info so far. I am a bit concerned on the beds. DS14 is 5'7" and DS12 is 5'5.5". This trip is a year away so I know they will grow more. DS 12 grew 4 inches in the past year!

Is there room for an air mattress??

I do love the the idea of having a full kitchen. We love the full kitchen in the DVC villas. One bathroom might be scary. We had 2 at SSR in Aug and at times there was a wait to use them.

Any more info would be great.

OP here-- I switched our ressie over to Port Orleans French Quarters. we got 2 rooms. IT was a little bit more but we gain 3 more sinks, 1 more bathroom and 4 bigger beds (queen). We do loose the full kitchen but w 2 mini frig we should be okay. I feel much better about it now switching resorts.

I am still going to watch what promos/codes come out to make sure i got a good rate (AAA)

thanks for the help

I'm going to put my two cents in. LOL! We own a nice camper and have camped at Fort wilderness several times. We love Fort Wilderness. But I would rather pay for two rooms at a value resort like we did last year at Pop century than to rent a cabin. You are going to have a better pool, food court, better bus service. The advantage for us in Fort Wilderness is bringing our own camper, our home away from home, our own food, all our stuff, up to ten people cheap, grilling our steaks from home. I guess I just don't understand the cabins and I think a hotel would be much easier. In October my husband I are staying at All Star Sports /Free dining plan instead of taking our camper because it is cheaper than we can pull the camper and pay for a site. Next summer we have a reservation for Fort Wilderness for us and other family to go, unless a real good deal comes along at a hotel.

FW has a new pool with slides, etc. It is better than any pool at any value resort, as good as or better than any moderate.
We liked the quiet and not sharing a wall with anyone at the cabins.
We hated one bathroom, and not having a private master for dh and I was a deal breaker. We will not stay in a cabin again.

As much as I love the Cabins, I think you made a great choice! Enjoy your vacation!

I love Fort Wilderness. As far as camping goes I haven't found a campground any better. If you or your kids want outdoor experiences you cannot beat Fort Wilderness. I'm going next year! But... I'm going to rent a golf cart to get around! LOL! Thats what we do at the beach! Why we haven't there I don't know! The addition of the slides at Fort Wilderness have made the pool alot better. But my family found it refreshing and a good change to stay at Pop and be right at the pool and bus pick up and have a food court. At Pop we had 2 rooms overlooking a very nice pool and kiddie area & we used it more than we do at the Fort. It was nice to not catch two buses to a theme park or to have to catch a bus to get to the pool. So I didn't miss the transportation at fort Wilderness and I guess from that perspective I would choose a value resort if I didn't have a camper. But ...one thing we missed by staying at a value resort and not being at Fort Wilderness was not being able to catch the boat right over to Magic Kingdom or seeing the fireworks and night parade on the water.
