Hi Everyone! :wave2:
This is my first post, but I have been lurking and trying to soak in all the information over the past few days. And WOW there is a lot of info out there!

To make a long story short, my future husband and I are planning on a Walt Disney World honeymoon. Neither one of us have ever been there and we are soooooooo excited! :bounce: We have looked at the different resorts and love many of them! We would like something larger in size, but due to budget contraints we cannot afford many of the deluxe lodges for the week that we would like to stay. Then we stumbled upon Fort Wilderness Campground & Cabins. We really like the size of the cabins and that they are remote, and they look beautiful!! We haven't booked quite yet-though will be very soon. Our honeymoon will be in late October.

My question is, has anyone ever stayed here for your honeymoon? Do you have any suggestions as honeymooners and first timers at Walt Disney World? Any discounts we should take advantage of being our budget is pretty slim? Is there a hotel that is equally as nice for the same rate we are going to get on the Fort Wilderness Cabins?

Sorry for the long post and trillion questions...just a newbie overwhelmed and trying to get the best rate and make the best memories ever!!

Thanks! :sunny:

Let's see if I can help. We can give you our own opinions, but everyone's entitled to their own. But the best way you can create your own is to research. I have an easy way. AllEarsNet.com is pretty thorough and accurate. They have lots of photos of resorts, the list of discounts. Along with park advice. This website is wonderful in planning a trip to WDW. I stayed at FW cabins when I was younger, much younger, about 10 years ago. I loved it!! You have no walk to your car, as it is parked ouside your cabin, you can barbeque, and cook your own meals (Im pretty sure it has a full kitchen), But hey I was 10-12 when I went so the bunkbeds struk my fancy. Hope this helps

We stayed at Fort Wilderness many times back in the 70's. We loved it. My best friend and MOH stayed at the cabins during a family trip and really enjoyed all the room.

I stayed in a wilderness home about 10yrs ago as well....it was more of a trailer...but its camping...and had about 10 teens/college kids inside...lots of room and we had a ball.....

I think FW is lots of fun! I have stayed in the cabins and campgrounds before. It is a nice "break" from the Disney craziness at the parks. If you like running/ walking this is definitely the place to stay. The cabins are trailers so they were pretty small for my family when we stayed there about 8 yrs ago. However, I think it will be perfect for the 2 of you :)

Hi everyone!
Thanks for your replies, I appericate the guidance.

I did check out the camping forum and saw great things about Fort Wilderness and the cabins, thanks for the suggestion!

For those of you who have stayed at the Caribbean Beach Resort, another one we are looking at a bit, how did you like it? I'm going to go check out the thread with the room pictures again on this one...I'm not overly impressed with the viritual tour on Disenyworld's website... Hmmm... It just seems this Resort vrs. the remote Cabins at Ft Wilderness as far as romance goes that the Cabins would be much more intimate and quiet...

So many decisions!

Thanks again for your replies!!! :sunny:

I recommend going to the Resort link on the discussion board to post/read more about Caribbean Beach. Also www.tripadvisor.com has up to date reviews. If you are teacher/nurse/gov. employee you can get good discounts at the Swan /Dolphin, which is our favorite resort..beautiful, big pools, comfy beds. Also I really like POR when I was there with my family many years back..could be more romantic than CBR if you are considering a moderate.

I've been looking into Fort Widerness because I thought it would be fun, but I thought the cabins were a bit high for a camping area. There aren't bathrooms in your cabin, right? Or am I wrong? I couldn't take that...haha! I'd rather stay at a Value Resort. Are the cabins the only covered areas to stay?

I've stayed at MANY disney resorts over the years, and I def. have opinions on all of them :) Personally, I would choose to stay at one of the cabins over the CBR. What you have said about having your "own" cabin is true-only with the FW cabins will you have your own actual unit to stay in-with all of the moderates you're just another room in a string of rooms.
FW has boat transportation to the MK (fun, but gets EXTREMELY crowded at closing), horse-drawn carriage rides, and a yummy buffet. A nice feature in the cabin is having your own kitchen-this way you can bring home your leftovers from the restaurants and have a midnight snack. It is also a GREAT way to save money on breakfast. This option will give you lots of privacy.

If you are looking for a moderate hotel to stay at, I would recommend Port Orleans (both French Quarter and Riverside)as a very romantic option: a "river" runs through the resort, there are horse-drawn carriage rides at night, and the grounds are absolutely beautiful. These resorts have both food courts and sit-down restaurants, nicely themed pools, and bus transportation to Downtown Disney.

There is a bathroom in the cabin, along with a bedroom with a queen (or king, I can't remember) bed, 2 bunkbeds in that bedroom, a kitchen, an area with a cool wood dining table, and a living room area with a murphy bed that pulls out from the wall.

Best of luck with your decision-but whatever you DO decide, it's your honeymoon and it's Disney-I'm sure you will have a magical time!

Thank you again to everyone for your suggestions and replies!!

We are now looking back at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and just going with a "river view" room and requesting a King sized bed, instead of the Deluxe Savannah room that we were pricing originally. We really LOVE this resort, but the cost was just getting to be too much with the Deluxe-Savannah which caused us to look into the other resorts, including FW.

So, NOW the question is....how are the river-view rooms at AKL?

I'm also going to hunt on the thread with all the pictures of the rooms (LOVE THAT ONE!) and try to do some searches on here.

Thanks again, I truly truly appericate your help and guidance, all the info and abbreviations found on here is a tad overwhleming for a newbie such as myself! :goodvibes
