Hi all,

Been searching for the answers to these questions so I wouldn't have to bother you guys but I am either search challenged or the info I was looking for is not readily available so here are my questions:

1. From the cabins, and assuming we get the 2100 loop we requested, how far is the walk to the Marina to catch the MK boat? We have 2 little ones and a double stroller I would rather not collapse for a bus if the walk is manageable.

2. Can a golf cart accomodate 2 adults and 3 kids (9,4 and 1) AND a double stroller (we would need this for MK)?

3. Is it impossible to get a golf cart at the bike barn on a "walk up" basis? We are going in March so they are probably all reserved at this point but I am wondering if it is worth it to try anyway. We would only want it for a couple days of our trip if we do get one due to the cost and would be willing to take what we could get.

Thanks campers!

Pretty darned far - see map HERE

Squishy, but probably doable. I've seen some folks bungee their strollers on the roof of their carts before too.

3. Is it impossible to get a golf cart at the bike barn on a "walk up" basis?

Not impossible, but I wouldn't count on it.

Ooh and just a note - carts aren't rented from the bike barn anymore - they've moved rentals up near check-in.

From the back of the 2100 loop you would be looking at 1.2 miles to get to the end of the dock. It might be an invigorating way to start the day, but I sure wouldn't want to do it after a long day in the parks!

Yikes! I had seen the map and had guestimated it was more like 3/4 of a miles based on their "as the crow flies" scale. Looks like that crow is flying pretty far and I need to talk dh into that golf cart!

We are currently trying to decide if we should split our stay between the FWCabins and one of the Epcot resorts (BC,YC, or BWI), or just stay at the cabin the whole time. The price after you factor in the golf cart (YAY!! Golf Cart!) is the same, so our only consideration is travel. We will have a double stroller, so I want to avoid buses, but we will have our car (just seems like more of a vacation if we don't need to use it I guess!) I love the idea of the boat to the CR and then grabbing the monorail, but will that take a long time? We have family that is staying at the Poly, can we get there by boat? We have made our ADR's so that we have MK area restaurants at the start, and Epcot ones near the end. Do you think it's worth it to switch midway just to be closer to HS and Epcot?

Yeah, that crow flies in a pretty straight shot <LOL> whereas the loops/roads aren't quite so straight and the distance adds up quick.

As an example, DH and I stayed in the 500 loop 2 years ago, which is VERY close the marina if you look on the map. It generally took us 5-7 minutes to walk door-to-door to/from the marina, unless we really pushed it (and we walk pretty fast). More like 10 coming back from a long day in the parks. <ugh>

It's also going to be a pretty good hike from 2100 to the bus stop near reception to get to all the other parks too.

Yes. You'll need to catch a bus to the marina (or hoof it - see above), catch the boat to CR, monorail to TTC, switch monorails to Epcot. Factoring in time to wait for each of those things, and you're probably looking at an hour minimally (possibly quite a bit more if you end up having to wait a while for any of those)

We have family that is staying at the Poly, can we get there by boat?

Not directly. You'd have to take the boat to MK and then switch boats to Poly. I think it would be quicker to take boat to CR and monorail to Poly.

I thought I would add to your case for a cart: from the back of 2100 to the Outpost Depot (park buses) is .8 mi, to the Meadow Trading Post .55 mi, to the Meadow pool .66 mi, and the Campfire Sing-A-Long .7 mi.

Hope it helps!

FORT FIENDS: I have never stayed in 2100, so I am going by the maps, which indicate there is no shortcut from 2100 through 1100 or 1000. Is that so? I know there is a "home-made" bridge between 2000 and 1000. If there is lemme know and I'll amend the measurements above.

I just wanted to weigh-in on the boat to Epcot and boat to Poly options.

Yes, the boat-CR-TTC-Epcot route is a lot of time in transit but I think the excitement of arriving at Epcot via monorail and taking that loop through FutureWorld is SOOOO WORTH IT!

I would prefer to do the boat to MK, boat to Poly route over the boat-CR-monorail route. The hike from the CR dock to the CR monorail platform is way too much work for my rolly-polly self!

Maybe if we do end up switching midway, this would be good to do on the day we switch! That way we get the fun of the trip (I kinda' have the feeling my kiddo's are going to love the boat/monorail as much as some of the rides), and after a long day at epcot we can walk or take the boat to one of the epcot resorts.

Good to know! My MIL does OK, but is not really well suited for long walks! Her parents are staying at the Poly (both well into their 80's and still do two trips to WDW a year! How awesome are they???) and we want her to be able to get to them if we are gone at the parks. She doesn't drive, so the boat will be a great help!

Thanks for this info! We are renting a car for travel to all parks except MK so I am not to worried about getting to the bus depot that takes you to the other parks. I was hoping that the 2100 loop would prove to be a better, more central choice but the distances are a little farther than I had thought.

Thanks! This is exactly what I was looking for and I appreciate you taking the time to make some rough measurements for me! On the map, dh swears that walking from a cabin in the 2100 is doable so this insider info will definitely make the golf cart an easier sell. Hopefully we can secure one at this late date.

We will have a rental car for travel to the other parks so that will at least help with some transportation out of the fort.

We are arriving 3/16 and I hope to get a chance to use the NEW pool. I promise to take lots of pictures if it opens in time and post them when I get back!

Thanks again-we are so excited about this trip! Only our 2nd trip to WDW and 1st time ever at the Fort. DH bought all the promo stuff on the vacation planning video, hook line and sinker and insisted we switch from Pop even after I told him the cost difference. I think he is more interested in hanging out at the Fort then going to the parks!!. He has his heart set on an RV when our kids are grown/ we retire and I think he is hoping to sell me on the idea on this trip.

Agreed across the boards Shanta!

First time we did the CR-Poly trip I was amazed at how long a hike it was just to get to the CR lobby! :faint:

DH and I sometimes have fun just coming up with fun ways to get from one place to another using all sorts of Disney transport. They might not be the shortest/quickest way to get there, but are definitely worth doing. :cool1:

Unfortunately most of the cabin loops are pretty far away from the "action. "

Thanks for that info. We stayed in the 2300 loop in Oct. & walked everywhere. It took us about 20 minutes to walk to the marina. We want to get the 2100 loop this year.

Just to answer my own question from earlier: there is, in fact, a path to connect 2100 to 1100's comfort station, then from there you can traverse 1100 to get to Fort Wilderness Trail and all points beyond. This shortcut subtracts nearly 2/10ths of a mile from the earlier measurements.

Thanks! I will have to scope this shortcut out when we get there! That would make the walk to the Marina from that loop about a mile but still too long for me at the end of the day. Unfortunately for me, my dh will probably consider that "managable"

Shan you make me laugh. I am OCD with organization but you are definitely OCD with numbers!! I love it:thumbsup2

It was neat the first time we "switched" at Contemporary Resort, just to walk through the interior. I can see how that would quickly becoming tiring if you "had" to do it.

LOL, it took my wife a couple trips before she realized I was intentionally choosing routes that included a monorail ride....

Yeah, it got a little old the 3rd or 4th time.

But we did have fun taking my aunt and uncle on a holiday resort tour one day last month....

Boat to WL (lunch)
Boat to CR
Monorail to Poly
Boat to GF
Monorail back to CR
Boat back to FW
