We are spending a few days in Fort Lauderdale and will drive to WDW for an overnight stay. I see two possible routes to take. Could someone please tell me the quickest way with least amount of traffic? We will be leaving Lauderdale around 5:30-6 AM to make it as close to rope drop as possible so I'm sure somewhere along the way we will have to worry about rush hour traffic. Thanks so much!

I drove from WDW to Pompano Beach, just north of Ft Lauderdale a few years ago. Mapquest told me, as did my GPS, to take the Florida Turnpike to Jupiter, then take 95 to Pompano. OMG!!! I am not a nervous nellie driver...heck, I'm from Mass and drive 128!! But, I have never been so nervous and scared as I was in the Palm Beach area on 95...bumper to bumper at 85 mph!!!! Seriously??? I wasn't sure where I was getting off, so tried to hang over to the right, but even that lane was flying.
When I got to my dad's, in Pompano Beach, he tells me that the exit of the Florida Turnpike is about 2 miles from them...I should have just stayed on the Turnpike!! Yeah, now you tell me.
The turnpike is a nice, easy, uncongested drive. I would head west, from FtL and grab the turnpike. Shouldn't be too far.

You can take Florida's Turnpike right from Fort Lauderdale to exit 249 and then take Osceola Parkway straight in to Disney.

Unfortunately there's no easy way to get from the Turnpike to FL-417, but a local may be able to advise you on a better way to get from the Turnpike to AK.
