Just wondering hotels are recommended in Fort Lauderdale? Because we land around 6 pm the evening before our cruise, I think I want to stay in Fort Lauderdale that night and head to Miami for our cruise in the morning. Bad idea?

Thanks!

We're staying at the Holiday Inn Express Airport/Cruise. It has a free shuttle. We booked way in advance. But now I wish we hadn't, since we are going to a Marlins game and have to get a minivan instead of using the shuttle and a limo to the port as originally planned (or staying somewhere near the stadium/port, which would be my preference).

Not a bad idea.

Last April, we flew into FLL and stayed the night at Springhill Suites, we used Marriott points for our room. We were picked up from the airport by Springhill's complimentary shuttle. We arrived rather late so did not eat out after our arrival and had complimentary breakfast in the hotel so I cannot comment on available eateries in the area. We were handed a free bottle of water when we arrived. I was a bit surprised when the clerk handed me the bottle but certainly did not refuse it. :confused3

The room was clean and comfortable. We rented a shared shuttle from Quality Limo to take us from the hotel to Miami port and for our return trip from the cruise port to the airport. The fare was $15 per person each way. The shuttle was clean and comfortable also. Both drivers were great, on time and friendly. I highly recommend both hotel and shuttle.

The trip from Ft. Lauderdale to the port did not take long. If we cruise out of Miami again we will again stay in Ft. Lauderdale. Except for the cost of our cruise, paying for the shuttle and tipping the various shuttle drivers and porters, the rest of our trip was paid for via FF/hotel points. It was a great way to start and end a vacation.

Good idea!

We stayed at the SpringHill Suites the night before our WBPC cruise in May. Nice rooms and good breakfast. We used SAS Transportation to get from the hotel to the Port of Miami.

We are staying in FLL the night before our Magic cruise at the Courtyard on the beach. Got a good rate that includes breakfast. We will take taxi to hotel then a cab to port the next day. There are 5 of us and we arrive on separate flights in FLL.

Thanks everyone for the replies. :goodvibes

I booked the Springhill Suites. :thumbsup2 I thought maybe I was mad staying the night in FLL but I guess I'm not. Lol! My friend is a manager for the Marriott but that hotel on that date isn't available for a discount. Darn!

I was hoping the room would be a little less than what I was finding in Miami but its the same. I'm glad they serve a good breakfast.

I did notice an advisory on the top of my reservation saying: travel time/to from the airport will take longer than normal due to airport construction during 2014. That shouldn't affect our time getting to the port though the next morning, right? I have no clue how wide spread the construction is or even the layout of FLL or Miami.

Thanks for this info. We love Springhill Suites and need to use Marriott Rewards.
