Not a bad idea.
Last April, we flew into FLL and stayed the night at Springhill Suites, we used Marriott points for our room. We were picked up from the airport by Springhill's complimentary shuttle. We arrived rather late so did not eat out after our arrival and had complimentary breakfast in the hotel so I cannot comment on available eateries in the area. We were handed a free bottle of water when we arrived. I was a bit surprised when the clerk handed me the bottle but certainly did not refuse it.
The room was clean and comfortable. We rented a shared shuttle from Quality Limo to take us from the hotel to Miami port and for our return trip from the cruise port to the airport. The fare was $15 per person each way. The shuttle was clean and comfortable also. Both drivers were great, on time and friendly. I highly recommend both hotel and shuttle.

The trip from Ft. Lauderdale to the port did not take long. If we cruise out of Miami again we will again stay in Ft. Lauderdale. Except for the cost of our cruise, paying for the shuttle and tipping the various shuttle drivers and porters, the rest of our trip was paid for via FF/hotel points. It was a great way to start and end a vacation.
