I just got my first Mac yesterday and I'm having an issue. I'm hoping that someone here can help, or can point me in the direction of a really great forum. Google has given me too many options (if you know what I mean) and I really am not sure which direction I need to go in. :confused3

Details:

Old - Sony Vaio notebook running XP

New - MacBook running OS X 10

iPhone 3G

iTunes has the most recent version on each computer

What is the best/only/any way I can get my downloads from my PC iTunes to my Mac iTunes via iPhone? It might sound silly, but I'm afraid of syncing up my iPhone with my Mac before I know that I could still go back and sync with the PC. I've just never dealt with this before. :)

Also, is there any way to transfer these files via our home network?

Any help or tips or suggestions would be much appreciated!!!!

Treat the Iphone as a harddrive where your songs are kept. You can download them into the Mac when You open I tunes on the Mac.

I know, I have done this. My Library is on my Ipod as well the machine itself for that very reason.

I recently had to do this and my mom does it for a lot of our friends who are switching computers. Here's what we do to avoid the scare of losing everything off our iPhones/iPods.

Get a large flash drive that is the size of how much music you have (get a 4G flash drive if you have 4Gs worth of music).
Plug it into your old computer.
Find where your computer stores its iTunes music (I'm running on a Mac right now, but it should be the same: go to preferences - advanced and theres a box that shows where your music is stored on your hard drive)
Go to that folder and copy the music files on the flash drive.
Remove flash drive and plus into Mac.
Open two finder windows in Mac. have one pull up your flash drive have the other open to music-iTunes-iTunes music (you should see a folder called automatically add to iTunes in there)
Drag the music over from the flash drive window into the "automatically add to iTunes" folder.
Open iTunes and all of your music should be in there just as you had it on the other computer!

I hope you can follow that...If not let me know and I can help more :)

Either of the above options will work just fine. The second option is the "safest" if you are not tech savy, though neither run much risk of losing the files, especially if you are just copying them, not immediately deleting them from the original location.
