Five years ago, I was a Cingular customer and switched to AT&T because their service and customer service was horrible. They screwed me over then, charging me $70 for some kind of reactivation mix-up plus my last regular monthly bill in order to close my account.

So then, after being a very happy AT&T customer for three years, Cingular decided to gobble up AT&T and I was not a happy camper. Within six months, the signals started to weaken as Cingular switched to their towers from AT&T towers. And again, customer service left much to be wanted.

After a year now of struggling with being with Cingular again, I switched to T-Mobile over the weekend. Problem is, I looked at my Cingular account online a few days after and it showed a charge of some $190 added to my current charges. There is no sign of what the charge is for, however, I can only assume that they are trying to charge me an early termination fee.

There is no way they are going to screw me over again for switching! My last AT&T contract was 1-year and was up in the Spring of 2005. I know it was a 1-year because I have NEVER signed a 2-year contract with any carrier. Not to mention that when I started my last contract the AT&T store didn't have my sign anything! I HATE Cingular and need to 1) warn people away from their services and 2) take suggestions on how to deal with this if they do indeed try to stick me with extra charges for switching.

As a former AT&T employee who was there during the switch, I feel your pain. I used to hear it day in and day out. That was one of the main reasons I quit. The Cingular standards of customer service are less than they were with AT&T.

I feel your pain!!!! One of our AT&T phones was switched to Sun Com. Their reception is terrible but we are stuck with a phone that you can't hear the person until next year or pay the early termination fee. We didn't ask to be switched.

Then daughter lost her phone. She couldn't get a better price on the phone until next year with Cingular. Thinking of closing that acct. out and going with Nextel.

Sorry for your troubles...I've been with Cingular for 4 years now and have never had any kind of problems...

I can't offer you suggestions, but I sincerely hope that your problems get resolved soon! :)

Cingular is evil, and now our AT&T home service has reverted to SBC :( Only SBC will soon be masquerading as AT&T. :( Funny, the government, in it's infinite wisdom, decided AT&T/Bell System was a monopoly...broke it up, and now they are letting SBC put it back together.

I feel your pain. I had SunCom (which was awesome here in my neck of the woods) and cingular bought them out. Well I stayed with Cingular b/c they were supposed to honor my SunCom Unplan. OMG I never received one correct bill. I had to call every month and the CSR told me they were sending it for a high level adjustment. Fast forward to Sept and they cut my phone off due to non-payment. It seems that not a single CSR I spoke with ever sent it for a high level adjustment  I had to do a little digging (cause they sure won't give you this info) and called the office of the president in GA and I filed an FCC complaint. Well that got everything taken care of PDQ. I now have my first bill that looks like my SunCom bill.

Oh yeah and I hate Cingular. The reception here is horrible and I am always getting dropped calls. I never had those problems with SunCom. Their customer service really bites too.

Pooh Girl, you mentioned contacting the office of the president... was that the president of Cingular? If so, do you still have that contact information in case my situation comes to that?

THANKS!

How I know your pain!! I switched from Sprint to Cingular last January...why I do not even know!! I never had problems with Sprint but to make a long story short...........I never had a call on that didn't get dropped and that was IF I could make a call!! THERE BARS WERE NOT IN ANY OF MY PLACES!!
Anyways it cost me over 200.00 to get out of that contract!! Money I didn't really have , but I couldn't have made a call to save my life so what good was it! I encountered nothing but rude, inconsiderate people at their customer service line and also in their stores! And if you called you were lucky you could understand their "broken" english. I cannot tell people enough about how Lousey Cingular is. I had even written to www.planetfeedback.com and posted how lousey they were! You will spend months trying not to pay that bill that you are thinking is an early termination fee. It will stay there to haunt you whether you believe it shouldn't be there or not, and everytime you call about it you will have to start all over with your same story, I hope in your case it isn't that way but speaking from experience I just sucked it up to get rid of them!!

Yes. Not that I actually got to speak with him but I did speak to several of his assistants. 866-220-8446. Good luck. I've got a long distance number but that's at home.

Ye, gods do not go with Nextel! They are horrible!

Call customer service and ask. Actually we had the opposite problem DH travels a lot and his coverage with AT&T was horrible. In fact we thought it may be a problem with the phone. We've had our family plan with Cingular since they began and have had no problems. Customer service can be difficult to deal with though.

N E X T E L

After all Disney can't be wrong can it .They switched and so should all of you

Son has been using Nextel for months with no problems. It is refreshing to actually hear him on the phone when he calls. Before it was in between I can't hear you and I hate this phone you might catch a word or two.
