Former AP holders going through Disney withdrawals...a pre-trip report (with pics!)

I just feel like posting some photos. One thing I love about Disneyland are the flowers. And I love that they change them all the time. Here are some flower photos....

These two are from October 2005

These are from February 2006. One of the few times I went to the park alone.

Those are gorgeous! Kind of off-topic, but have you ever noticed the flower beds right in front of Casey Jr.? I'm definitely going to try to get either video or a picture of the tiny little mice that live there. That whole bed was infested w/ them. I would not have noticed if someone on this board hadn't mentioned the mice prior to my trip. So I was looking.

At one point, while I was sitting on a chair next to the flower bed, a mouse came over and almost touched my foot! It was running by- didn't even notice me.

I asked one of the CMs about it, and he said someone was supposed to come and get rid of them. I did notice a ton of De-Con inside the beds. Maybe the family is gone, but if not I will take a pic lol. My kids were excited to see them. Me- not so much.

Aww, I like mice. They are cute. I'm surprised all of the Disneyland cats didn't get them though.

I didn't realize you had a trip report! It's super long (19 pages!) but next week when I have time I'm going to read it :)
Yeah, that's from our June trip. It includes DL, Hollywood, Solvang and my new favorite hotel in Pismo Beach. Ahhh, it seems like forever ago already. :sad2:

I love the flower pics!! So pretty. I never really noticed all the flowers before. I'm going to make a point of literally stopping to "smell the roses" next time.

I don't think I would have liked to see that! :eek: Guess that's what all those cats are there for. :cat:

Yes...take notice of the flowers. They change them all the time. Different ones for different seasons. I love the Fall ones because of the colors and all of the mums.

So they put up the 2009 park ticket prices. Let's compare...

2-day hopper
2008 = $132
2009 = $143

3-day hopper
2008 = $169
2009 = $179

BUT....they have a deal for January - April....adults get in for the kids price for the 3-day!! So for us it'll be $149 a person!! Well, there's no question now about adding that third day to the ticket because it's only an extra $6 a person AND we get one "magic morning." WOOHOO!!!

Here's the money spent so far.....
Airfare = $80
Park tickets = $298 (plus tax??)

Money saved so far.....
On airfare = roughly $720
On park tickets = $60

That's really good Janej! The miles are a huge help, especially these days. Some airlines are even starting to charge more miles for a trip. I know Alaska is doing that. They're pushing the reward tickets up by 5k miles.

Through United it's 25,000 for a one-trip ticket. But I can pretty much pick any day/time I want. I'm thinking I should book soon in case they change their policies and stuff. But we aren't absolutely sure about the dates yet so I'm waiting a little longer. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed though. If United bumps it up 5k more a ticket, I'll still have enough for two. But anymore than that and I won't have enough.

So last night on the Disneyland UNO thread (a fun thread!) RobertTG posted a couple photos of them....

That made me want to rethink the days we go to the park because I wanted to try to catch a glimpse of them dancing on a Saturday night. I told Graham that I want to get my picture taken with them. Then I said, "Do you think they are still alive?" So Graham did some research and found out their names are Rose and Dubby. Unfortunately he found it by reading something entitled "Rose and Dubby, Disneyland swing dance couple, join Walt." They both passed away this year (in May.) Dubby had cancer. It didn't say why Rose died. Probably just old age and because the love of her life died. They were 90 years old and had been married for 69 years. They had kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. It seems like they both had great lives. I'm sad I'll never see them again.
Wow, what a story. I've seen the couples there dancing once or twice, but can't say that I recall ever seeing Rose and Dubby. Now I wish I had.

I love that they were together for so long and still loved to go out and dance, wearing matching outfits no less! I bet they made lots of park visitors smile. :)

Loving your pre trip report. All the pics are fantastic. You guys look like such a fun couple. Especially got a good chuckle with the halloween costume.

Thanks! I'm adding your report to my "threads to read" folder so I can read it when I get some time this week. :)

Cute pin!

I'm not really into buying a lot of souvenirs, but pins are one thing we like to buy. They don't take up a lot of room which is the main appeal for me. :rotfl:

A while back I searched for rental cars and they were around $185 or so for the days we're there. Then I saw that I might be able to get a discount code through costco for certain car rental places. But today I searched on orbitz again and the price is $114 now. Hopefully it stays that way because that is even cheaper than what we'd get with costco.

I'm pretty sure we're going to stay at the Anaheim Plaza again. We've stayed there twice and it was good. Plus it's only $69 a night. But someone here on the disboards offered to give away a bunch of entertainment cards. I thought I could use it for the Anaheim Plaza but I think it can only be used for the Hojo. So we'll see what happens. She's sending it to me so I'll see if I decide to use it. If I don't need it and someone else wants it, let me know.

Good deal on the car! If we don't end up getting our mini van fixed in time, and have to rent one it will end up running us close to $300. :rolleyes:

HoJo is a nice place! I'm glad we tried it last time.

I worry the freeway noise may be a bit too loud for me. The only noise I can handle while sleeping is my air purifier. I liked that at the Anaheim Plaza I couldn't really hear the people next door.
