I've never sailed on the Magic before. Planning for our upcoming Eastern. Do most people go truly formal? Would we fit in or stand out in a tux and long gown? Thanks!

You'll definitely fit in! We donned the tux and long dress for formal night on our first cruise and will be doing it again in January. DH created quite a stir in his Disney tuxedo vest (found it on ebay), too. There were plenty of folks who dressed up for both the formal and semi-formal nights. Loved seeing the younger ones in their finery, too.

Absolutely you will fit in. We bring our formal wear on all our Magic cruises. And every time DH claims that his tux shrank in the closet between cruises. :lmao:

Only negative on our last Magic cruise was that the photographer on formal night positioned my kids right in front of me so you cannot see my outfit at all - you can only see my head. So much for choosing a nice outfit for that picture.

My husband has the same exact problem! Do you think instead of shoemaker elves, we have tailor elves in our closets and they take the suits in?

My dd's 18 and 16 were going to wear their prom dresses on formal night ... now they don't want to because "no one else will be wearing that kind of dress"!! UGH! Help me convince them that they should wear them!! Here's a pic:

Their dresses are beautiful! Almost as pretty as the new dress I bought for formal night! ;) YES they should wear them! Absolutely, positively YES!

They will fit right in with the rest of the young ladies on Formal Night. I found a maroon satin ball gown that I'll be wearing...and I'm 50 yrs. old!

Heres the dress (in Blue) that my DD will be wearing on the OCtober 13, 2007 Eastern cruise, she wore it to her prom also.

Jackie,

Your daughters are just gorgeous!!!!! They absolutely should wear those dresses, but be prepared with some sticks to fight off those boys!!!!!!!!! ::yes::

What beautiful dresses! They will look just lovely on formal night. Almost anything goes, from adapted wedding dresses to...........jogging trousers and tee shirts! Yes, we even saw the track-suit family on our cruise - chatting to the Captain, while sipping their cocktails. The children also dress up - although we did see a few little guys who clearly had been "forced" into their tux! Would love to have seen the formal photos of them..........pouting at the camera!:rotfl2:

This is the dress I just ordered for formal night!

And FH is wearing a tux (it's our honeymoon!) so if you stand out we'll stand out too! :) But I'm really really excited about it. Even getting a pedicure in the morning and will probably go get my hair styled or something with curls just to look pretty! I'm a bit of a girly girl though :thumbsup2

Thanks for all the replies! All the girls in their gowns are just beautiful! Ok, I will definatly wear mine, too! Oh and DH will break out the tux!:goodvibes

This is a Beautiful Gown! I'm sure you'll be the Bell of the Ball on formal night. ;)

I almost bought that Black and White dress for myself for my next cruise! JC Penney had it on close out for 47.00. What lovely group of young ladies and gentleman. :thumbsup2

Men can do the black suit trick if you do not own a tux and want to get
dressed up.

You can pretty cheaply get a tux shirt/tie/cumberbund or vest.
I got mine for $25 with cufflinks too.

Then wear the black suit with tux shirt etc on formal nite and the black suite
again with just a shirt or shirt and tie on semi-formal nite.

Less packing.

What a great idea! I found this for my DH on Eaby.

I would like to clean it but not really sure how to go about it, it's silk.

Here's something I just thought of and am a little scared about!

I've never been through the security and checked baggage and all of those things. Is there a limit like an airline? Can I bring his tux and my ballgown in a garment bag or are we going to have to put them in a suitcase?

I just thought about the luggage tonight... and heck I pack 4 suitcases for a 5 night trip (and that's just clothes and no, that's NOT overpacking.) so I don't know what I'm going to do for this! :scared:
