This is our first 7 night cruise so our first "formal" night. We usually were among the more nicely dressed on our previous cruises, though nothing too crazy. How formal do people get? Is a suit ok for my husband or should he bring his tux (which then means tux shoes taking up space for only a couple of hours wear). I have some lovely fancier dresses but do people really get that fancy? I don't have floor length but I do have some sequins... Help?

Suit is fine. Tux is also fine. Whatever you want. Really, "formal" is basically a suggested dress code. No enforcement in the main dining rooms. You'll find all manner of dress from full on gowns/tuxes to shorts and tshirts (yes, even on formal night).

Depending on my mood, I've worn a full gown (with and without my tiara), or dress slacks with a sparkly top. I also have a nice cocktail dress I've worn, as well as a mid-length velvet skirt for wearing with the same sparkly tops that I wear with my dress black slacks.

Really, do what you'd like.

You'll see everything. Usually my husband wears a suit and I wear a nice cocktail dress, and I'd say we're among the more nicely dressed.

My hubby and I like to go with the Disney suggestion to wear formal attire. He has found it more convenient to take along his own formal foot wear and rent the tux from the DCL recommended vendor , eliminating the need to pack all the paraphernalia. The tux is delivered to your stateroom. I usually wear a floor length chiffon type skirt and a sparkly top. We enjoy getting into the spirit of the evening.....and there's just something about a man in a tux...just sayin'.

My husband and boys wear suits and I wear a nice cocktail dress (usually with a tiara). We are usually one of the dressier families. There are always a few in tuxes and gowns, but since we don't have those, we stick with nice cocktail wear. We also dress nice for the semi-formal night.

I always where my suit but I also bought several matching vest/tie combos online for $20/set. That way my vest and tie match the cocktail dress my wife wears.

I take a tux and wear it both the formal and semi-formal nights, which justifies the space and weight of taking it. One night I wear it with a vest and the other night an island themed matching cummerbund and tie. On a non-DCL cruise to Bermuda I wore a kilt. DW wears a cocktail dress but changes her accessories.
