Forgive me if this has been asked and/or answered recently. Since I have not been in trip planning mode for two years, I have avoided all-things Disney (the only way I can cope). But now, as we're planning a 2-week Aug 2018 trip (yay!!!), I'm geared up and ready to go!

When is the free dining offer typically out for the general public? This could make or break a moderate vs a deluxe stay for us. And are there any tips you could provide that would help me ensure I respond to this offer in a timely manner? Don't want to miss the opportunity! Can I sign up for anything to get a heads-up?

Also if you haven't followed they changed it up this year and moderates only got the QSDP, which was a bummer. So price it out if you have to add on to get the DDP at a moderate how much it would have cost to just do deluxe to begin with.

Would you believe there is already a 6 month-old thread about the release of Free Dining in 2018? All the tips you could possibly need will be found in this thread:

This thread also has all the details of the 2017 F.D. offer which will give you a general idea of what to expect for 2018. The thread will start to heat up around March 2018. If/when F.D. 2018 is finally released next year, this will be the first place to read about it. Good luck!

Gotcha! I did happen to read that, and if we did get the DP, it would definitely be the standard plan. I can't imagine eating only quick service. A sit down meal in a beautifully themed restaurant is a must for us. It's part of the magic for our Disney vacations.
