Forgive Me DISers For I Have Sinned...3/9/12 Sci-Fi Dine In Theater

That cake looks wonderful. :thumbsup2

I have'nt yet had a dole whip - it is a definite must do on our next trip.

What a beautiful and special cake! It looks YUMMY!

Thanks for your reviews. Looking forward to more!

I enjoy ESPN Club too. It's a fun, casual atmosphere, even if it is typical bar food. That cake looks great too. I hope I have an excuse to order one someday!

Great start to your reviews. ESPN sounds like a great quick option if you are staying at an Epcot resort. Were there many (any) kids in there? Would you be OK to take kids in the early evening?

That cake looks absolutely awesome. We are celebrating our anniversary in August, staying at the Beach Club. Am very tempted to order us a little mini cake...

Joining! popcorn::

I love the cake! It sure looks delicious~~~~.

Hi! :wave2:

It was delicious. I can't even stand to look at the pics, makes me want a big ol' tub of cream cheese frosting!

Not sure if I saw any kids in there this time around, but on previous trips I have definitely seen kids. There is a "bar" section and then a whole dining room section that is similar to Applebees or any local chain restaurant. It's definitely okay to bring kids...I probably wouldn't even limit it to early evening. Whenever you are ready for dinner, head on over!

Isn't taking a vacation excuse enough to order a cake? There's always something to celebrate, even if it is just having the week off work. :thumbsup2

Thanks for tagging along, glad to have people actually piping up instead of just lurking! :goodvibes

I have'nt yet had a dole whip - it is a definite must do on our next trip.

I hadn't had one for quite a few trips to WDW until our trip in 2009 when I had one for the first time ever. It isn't a "must do" for me, but if we're around and it's a warm day, it's definitely refreshing!

As soon as I saw "nachos of mammoth proportion", I knew it had to be ESPN. We did the dining plan for the first time on our 2007 trip and those were my appetizer. More like a meal for a small army. I don't even think I made a dent.

Back in Sept., I flew out to visit my sister from Logan (Boston) and I found the Earl of Sandwich there too. I think of it as a little piece of Disney! It is, however, in the International Terminal, which just so happens to also be the Southwest terminal. I sure hope they don't move Southwest to one of the other domestic terminals because there isn't another EOS in the airport.

The nachos were seriously huge. I'm glad it wasn't just me who thought that. I laughed when I saw them coming out. I'm used to seeing large portions at places like Cheesecake Factory or whatever restaurants we go to around our house...but this was on another level, especially considering the price.

Just so you know, an EOS is being built around Bostom Common (or so I read) so even if they do move the terminal, you can hopefully still get your EOS fix when you need it! :thumbsup2

Day 2 - A Morning So Unlike Any Other

After a great first day of our vacation, we hit the hay without setting an alarm clock. This is how our morning was so unlike any other on past Disney trips. This trip, we were determined to take is easier since we had 8 days to enjoy ourselves, and take it easier we did!

We awoke on Saturday to a beautiful morning overlooking the Boardwalk. I'm glad the cheapskate in me didn't win out this trip and we had a room with a view, because taking in Crescent Lake for even a few moments every day was a magical part of the trip.

We had a date with a sit-down restaurant at lunch, so a quick breakfast was just what we needed. While I got ready, Erik headed down to...

BOARDWALK BAKERY

We had planned to eat at the Boardwalk Bakery every morning of our trip, with the exception of three pre-planned breakfasts we had. It's close, it's quick, it's cheap and it's delicious. What else do you want in a breakfast location?

I was predictable and boring and got a bagel with cream cheese.

Food-17-L.jpg

What can be said about this breakfast? It was a plain bagel with cream cheese. The bagel was edible as expected, but not fantastic like a bagel from an Einstein Bros, Manhattan Bagel, local deli, etc. It got the job done though and was definitely what I needed to get the morning started.

Erik was also predictable and got exactly what I thought he would get when I was in the "budgeting for food" phase of the trip.

A ham, egg and cheese croissant and...

a cheese danish. Oh yeah, and a bottle of orange juice.

You should know now that we are very unpicky people when it comes to food. We rarely send food at restaurants back and for the most part, if a meal comes out as we've requested and served at the right temperature, we couldn't be happier.

Erik thought his breakfast sandwich was good. The man has never met a cheese danish he didn't like, so I'm sure you can guess that everthing he purchased at the bakery was consumed shortly thereafter.

The total for our breakfast was $14.55. No, I'm not looking at a receipt so I can't itemize how much each item was, but I can tell you that after many clones of this exact breakfast, I've got the price of this breakfast burned into my memory!

Next up...free lunch, free booze and one of the least grueling Disney days ever.

Can't wait to hear the rest! We'll be at the Boardwalk for a couple of days in June. How do I order that cake?

Loving your TR since we are just 6 days away from our first stay at BWI. ESPN is a favorite of ours and we plan on trying BWB on our last morning for breakfast. Great start :thumbsup2

**EDITED: NEVERMIND! I just retread the Cake Chatter Thread one more time and found your post right away, don't know how I missed it the first time.**

Oh wow!! I want to order a cake JUST LIKE THAT for my son, it's his 16th birthday trip this summer! Exactly who should I talk to? And exactly what should I order? And approximately what should I expect it to cost?
(PS- I already looked on the cake chatter thread - but I couldn't find your post!)

Mmm, starting the day at the Boardwalk Bakery is just wonderful :cloud9:

I would love to get one of their cheese danish right now :thumbsup2

Welcome! You can order the cake by calling Private Dining. If you want to do a custom design like I did (with the polka dots and stripes and Mickey topper) you can speak to someone at the Boardwalk Bakery directly to discuss your options. There is a whole Cake Chatter thread on the Restaurant board, and here is a link to an article written about cake ordering in WDW.

Ahhhh, 6 days? I'm so jealous. Already missing it! Just yesterday my DH looked up Blood Orange Margarita recipes because he misses hanging out at La Cava so much. :cloud9:

Woah, the red velvet cake looks incredible. Can't wait to see more! popcorn::

It was sooo good. So much icing on top of such moist cake. Mmmm.

It really is such a nice way to start the day, with the exception of those seagulls. While we were outside eating one morning, a gull swooped down and tried to steal a kid's breakfast at the table next to us. :rotfl:

Several years ago, a Boardwalk Bakery seagull succeeded in grabbing a rice krispie treat out of my hand. It then flew over Crescent Lake and accidentally dropped my snack into the water.

Day 2 - "Free" Is My Favorite Flavor!

After sleeping in a bit on Saturday morning, we finally decided we would head otu to Animal Kingdom for the day. We got to the park around 12:00pm and it was open until 8:00pm so we knew we'd have plenty of time to wander around, fit in a sit-down meal and still see everything we had planned to hit.

After spending some time in the Oasis and picking up some Fast Passes for Kilimanjaro Safaris, we made our way over to Asia to get some lunch at...

YAK & YETI

We presented our Landry's Card at the check-in and were able to get a table without a reservation. The place was pretty busy, but with such limited sit-down options in Animal Kingdom that really wasn't surprising at 1:30 in the afternoon.

This would be our second visit at Yak & Yeti and we were looking forward to it. In December 2009 we ate here for the first time on the Deluxe Dining Plan and really loved everything we ordered. Today though, we had no dining plan...we had better...we had...

FREE FOOD!

We had signed up for our Landry's card a while back when visiting a Rainforest Cafe in the area and knew that during your birthday month, you get a $25 credit for free. We also knew we had a $25 credit on it already from points earned over time. That meant we had $50 to put towards our lunch and didn't have to spend a penny of our money on it.

We were seated upstairs at a small two-top and our server was Dan. When he sat us, I immediately asked about redeeming our points and whether or not there were any restrictions (couldn't be used towards alcohol, couldn't split meals, etc.). He assured us that the rewards were the same as cash and so we decided we would each order an adult beverage.

Per Dan's recommendation, I got the Big Bamboo (I believe). All I know is that Dan told me it was the best "bang for my buck" and it was banana flavored. Sounded good to me.

Food-14-L.jpg

The drink tasted nothing like alcohol, which was good for me because I like my drinks fruity. It was refreshing and tasted like banana, which I enjoyed. I didn't think it packed much punch until we got up to believe and I realized that not getting a second was the best decision of the trip so far.

Erik got an Emperor Margarita.

Food-13-L.jpg

He said it was your run of the mill, made from a mix, margarita. Nothing bad, but nothing special like you might get as a local Mexican restaurant or La Cava in Epcot. And hey, it was free, what's not to like!?

I was still a little full from breakfast, so I decided to get the Pork Egg Rolls as an appetizer/possible entree if I wasn't feeling up to eating anything else.

Food-9-L.jpg

I had these in 2009 and thought they were the best egg rolls I'd ever had. I was hoping my reaction to them this time would be the same. So, what's the verdict? They were AWESOME. Still the best egg rolls I've ever had. They were hot, fresh, not too greasy and the dipping sauce that comes with them makes the dish.

Erik got the Pork Pot Stickers.

Food-15-M.jpg

He deemed them delicious, although that didn't stop him from stealing one of my egg rolls because he agreed---of the two appetizers, the egg rolls were the winner.

When it was time to order entrees, I knew that mine would be a waste, so I passed.

Erik decided on the Bourbon Chicken with brown rice---you know, to be healthy. :lmao:

Food-10-M.jpg

I stole a piece of his chicken and it was tasty, although definitely not anything better than your standard Chinese food at home. He liked it and described it as General Tso's chicken but less spicy.

Once the entrees were done, we both agreed we were stuffed and decided to take a pass on dessert. The decision was painful, since the Cream Cheese Wontons had been the highlight of our meal in 2009, but we did the responsible thing and asked for the check.

When the check came out, we saw that we owed $18 and only about $30 of our rewards had been taken off our account. When I asked our waiter Dan about this, he said that it turns out we couldn't use our rewards on alcohol. Normally, I would expect this and it would be fine. But because we asked Dan specifically in advance what the restrictions were with regards to alcohol and we were told there weren't any, we ordered drinks.

If we knew we'd be paying for them, we would have passed as we could have guessed the drinks would be okay at best. After explaining this to Dan, he got two different managers to come over and after about 20 minutes of playing with the bill, they managed to work it out that we didn't owe any money out of pocket. It definitely seemed like an inconvenience to them, since we spoke to multiple people and none seemed to understand that we ordered drinks because their waiter told us we could---but in the end, all ended well.

If both meals were free, I would definitely say we enjoyed our trip to Yak & Yeti in 2009 a little more. That being said, both meals weren't free---so our 2012 trip to their restaurant was definitely the more enjoyable of the two.

We'll definitely be back in the future!

Next up: A sweet snack and a whole can of whipped cream.

I'm glad you got it sorted in the end. It is so annoying when you specifically check something and then rely on the information that your are given and in the end they try and move the goalposts.

Great updates. Can't beat breakfast at/from the Boardwalk Bakery :thumbsup2

I just yesterday made an ADR for lunch at Y&Y in August. Figured it would be a great way to get out of the August heat (or rain).

I definitely enjoyed our lunch at Yak and Yeti also. It was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the park to air-conditioned restaurant and the food was good! :thumbsup2 Now I know not to expect alcohol to be covered under landry's card. I have the card also and have $50 saved up for coming trip.

Thanks for the Y&Y review
We are really excited about our dinner their in May
I am 100% saving room for dessert though :rotfl:
