The forecast for our trip next weekend has been looking a-m-a-z-i-ng.

Until today, of course. Now rain is expected on the last day.

I don't really mind. Truth be told, I'm kind of curious to see if the park empties out in the rain like everyone says - I can totally deal with some rain if it means I can walk onto Peter Pan!:thumbsup2

My problem at this point is that I need rain suits. And quick! I found some online that would be fine (for 3 kids and 2 adults), but I just don't think they will get here fast enough.

Was hoping Dis'ers would have suggestions for a physical brick-and-mortar store that I can walk into and purchase rainsuits (for $30 or less, each).

Wal-mart? Target? A sporting goods store? :confused3

Please help, thanks!!!

Dollar store is where I get mine for DL or WDW. one dollar for 2 usually one very light yellow and one clear. I like these as they are use once and toss. The small package of two fits into a purse or back pack neatly. Do not remember if they specificallu have children s sizes. My daughter use the larger size as a 9 year old. Remember they sell rain covers at the DL on site stores. They can be used over and over again. Also Totes sells rain covers at the Safeway aka Vons in S. California. I think they were 10.00 each. If you are taking a stroller --- bring a fold up umberella for the child in stroller.

Have fun -- Check out that dollar store they even have some Disney books and such.

Target has very nice ponchos in the camping section of their stores. All sizes, kid through adult. Probably have pants too, but if not, you could always buy some of those fleece-lined nylon athletic pants.

California rain is usually not TOO bad, so a poncho may be all you need. I feel your pain -- I'm planning a birthday party for DS this Satuday and it is forecasting rain. I don't think we've had a rainy day in all of January, but we are supposed to that day. Aargh! :confused3

If it's raining hard I would definitely suggest a full rain suit and rain shoes. I've been in the rain several times and when prepared with full gear it was awesome! No lines or crowds and we were dry and warm. I've been other times with only a poncho and gotten soaked. We sat down on matterhorn at the moment it downpoured and by the time I could get my DD and I buckled around our ponchos my legs and shoes were completely soaked and so was my DD and we could only tolerate another hour or so and had to leave.

Try walmart and target. The sporting good stores also sometimes have them. I've had a hard time finding full suits for the kids though. A poncho for them works ok as long as it's long (don't get the rain jacket type as their legs get wet when they sit). In a pinch I had my kids wear their snow pants and that seemed to work ok.

Thanks, everybody!

Yeah, I'm thinking full rain suits are in order. I actually live in CA (and lived in the L.A. area for most of my life). There are usually a few weeks somewhere in Jan/Feb where the rain can be pretty nonstop on several days. Not every year, but this year is expected to be "wetter" than average. So, incase it's one of those days where it rains for 8 hours straight (or more), I just want everyone to stay dry so that we can splash around the park without being uncomfortable.

ABOULEY - thanks, I will walk into my local Target and Wal-mart and see what I can find. I found ones I really like online (the Columbia Get Outside rainsuit), but nobody has anything but XL in stock. Also, they likely wouldn't get here on time even if I ordered them today. I was considering snow pants, too...I was just hoping for something less bulky incase the sun comes out and they have to take them off and pack them in our backpack.

Not sure of your kids sizes, but Disney Store has super cute rain coats and boots in stock right now, but they are kinda spendy.

I heard, but never confirmed that water repellent exercise like pants work really good in the rain??

Good luck, I hope you find what you need and I hope you don't need to use them and can return it all. Remember, weather forcasts change all the time, so it could be pushed back, forward or not at all for the rain. So keep checking those reports :)

Sending you lots of pixie dust for good weather, low crowds and lots and lots of fun!!

Quick rain tip.....get a Sham-Wow (or similar) to use to wipe off wet seats before you get on rides. Rides like IASW can get very wet on the seats, it's amazing to be able to wipe as you board and have a dry seat to sit on. :)

@Kailua Girl - thanks for the info! My kids are kind of "old" for the Disney Store clothing, but we did used to buy the raincoats and umbrellas there when they were toddlers. I can remember hitting some GREAT sales for rain gear there! And yep, I am checking forecasts daily, hoping they wiggle just a little bit. :)

@PixieWings - what a good idea! I'm hoping to pack as light as possible, which is why I'm looking for rain suits...that way we can just sit in those darn seat puddles and it won't even matter, lol! :)

@Emmers - Lol, I didn't know what a full rain suit was either, until last night!! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I really loved Columbia Get Outside rainsuit (inexpensive, great looking, and even comes in pink!). Check the "everythingsummercamp" website, they had great stuff. Plus matching rainboots for $22!!:)

Okay, I have to share that I am sitting here laughing after reading the OP, because I live in So Cal and:

  • have no clue that rain is coming
  • have NO idea what a rain suit is
  • would never think of buying a rain suit (probably because I don't know what one is)
  • and am thinking, if some forecast says that rain is coming in a few days, that could soooo change by the time that day gets here.

Oh, to live life as a So. Californian!

Here's hoping the rain (?) doesn't actually arrive while you're here.

*I checked the extended forecast because I like to know what we'll be driving through.

*I was born and raised in Ventura (lived there for 30 years), and then lived in Torrance for 3 years, so I had no idea what a rain suit was, either.:lmao: Not that we couldn't have ever used them in those areas....I remember one Winter (1992-93) when it rained for 14 days in a row, and many other years when it stormed enough to flood streets, riverbeds, etc, and wash out roads, cause mudslides, etc.(a couple from my lamaze class actually died in one of those slides along with their unborn son:sad1:). Perhaps it doesn't rain much where you live (and if that's the case, I envy you :) ), but there are definitely areas of SoCal that get plenty of rain, albeit not usually for weeks at a time. And since the almanac predicts this year to be wetter than average in SoCal...maybe it's a good thing that a lot of people with trips planned to Disneyland are finding out what a rainsuit is! :thumbsup2

*I keep checking the forecast, knowing it can change plenty before we get there in a week. In fact, it's already changed since last night....now it says that BOTH of my days there are going to be rainy! :rotfl:

The good thing is, it won't matter if we don't need them while in the parks when all is said and done, because the kids can use them on rainy days when playing outside (we homeschool, so my kids spend a lot of time outdoors).

It looks like simple, inexpensive rainsuits made by Coleman can be found in the sporting goods section of Wal-Mart near the hunting/camping supplies. Now, off to find rain boots....

This might push your budget, but I would get rain gear from REI.
Look for rain gear that is breathable :thumbsup2
This would be a good investment for the adults, kids can get by with cheaper gear from a discount sporting goods store.

Remember to get a rain hat.

Costco had some adult sets but not sure if they still do. MY SIL got a set and loves it. I'm going to go look after our snow melts in WA.

We'll be in the parks the 30th and 31st.

Thanks for the advice! The jackets on the suits come with hoods sewn on, so I think we're good for noggin coverage. :thumbsup2

I don't have an REI close enough to me to shop there before we leave on our trip, but I do love their stuff (we used to live near one).

I didn't even think of trying Costco, thanks for the tip!

I will check out the nylon athletic pants...I don't know if they would hold up to sitting in one of the puddles on a ride seat? I'll have to look and see if they seem waterproof. Thanks! The fleece-lined ones would certainly be more comfy than wearing rain pants over jeans....

I'm thinking pants will be the best way to go...so that we don't have to stress about what we're sitting on, like wet ride seats. I hope the forecast changes and you get dry weather for your little guy's birthday party!

Even with rain suits take the Shammy, trust me. They are tiny and super easy to carry. The best part is after you wipe the seat you just wring it out and fold or roll it up and put it away. That was the absolute best thing we took one year when it was raining like crazy. And yes, it was simply pouring rain, seats were soaked, we took 2 Shammies in and we were sharing them like crazy with other people on the rides. lol they were so easy to carry around. We put them in gallon Ziploc bags after we wrung them out and then put the Ziploc in our park bag to carry around. It worked great. One lady told her DH that after they got off the ride he was to leave, go to Target, find the Shammy and Ziploc bags and come back only after he'd found them. LOL They are pretty amazing.

hehe! Those are totally adorable! Let me know how it goes :) We aren't going during a rainy time but ya never know right? LOL

That is absolutely brilliant.

to the OP, if you have a stroller make sure to remember some rain protection for it too.

Our trip last year we all had our ponchos on no problem, then hopped on Toy Story and forgot about covering up the stroller. Whoops. Won't forget that again.
