I would love to rent a min van for our trip, but the prices are just outrageous for the 10 days we will need it. The Dodge Charger is considered full sized, Ford Fusion is a mid sized. There doesn't seem to be much difference to me, and the fusion would save me almost $100 in gas. I was able to find the trunk size for both cars online and the fusion is larger, but I can't find anything on the interior size. Anyone know?

I drive a Fusion and can say that it is a very reliable car if it was built in '07 or later. Both the trunk and interior has more usable space. The Charger is a sexier car and would be more fun to drive but uses more gas. I think it's listed as full size to match the cost of ownership for the Rental company.

If it's me and I'm trying to impress my girlfriend...then the Charger. If I'm with a family of 4 and need to save a wad of dough then the Fusion is the way to go. :thumbsup2

Fusion, but don't assume because you're booking a midsize, that is what you'll get, they could easily upgrade you (or downgrade - it happens, even though it shouldn't) based on vehicle availability. Plus, most companies have more then one "type" of vehicle per class.

Here is some info I have. I own a Fusion and am thinking about buying a new used charger. The fusion is a great car for the size that it is. Trunk is HUGE. If you only have four people, you will be fine. The middle seat in the back is pretty much unusable. The charger is a bigger car. As a family of five, the number that is important to me is the width of the second row. The charger is over 4 inches wider. Though if you aren't sitting someone in the middle, that may be a moot point for you.

Thanks guys. I booked the fusion with the realization that they may upgrade me, but at least I locked in the lower price. We rent from Thrifty, and I usually have had good luck with them.

I guess you're renting locally so it may be totally different, but at an airport location I can't ever remember getting the exact car that I signed up for.

We rent from the airport in Tulsa. I am trying to use the power of positive thinking on getting the fusion!:)

I drive a Charger at home so I always try to get one when I rent so that I'm driving a familiar vehicle.

OT: Check the rental location's geographic restrictions (give that local office where you are picking up the car another call) to be sure you are allowed to drive that far from the rental office.

Approximate (what to expect) geographic restrictions (typically you're limited to in-state and neighboring states) can be seen in the rules or polices as shown on that brand's web site.

last year we rented the charger for 10 days for the same travel distance.
it was a smooth ride and plenty of back seat space for the kids and great trunk space. we were not disappointed. we rent from avis with unlimited miles and always get the charger if it states so. but we pick up at the airport location.

Thank you, I never even thought of the geographic restrictions. Checking right now......

It looks like I can drive wherever as longs as it's in the US. I will double check with the local office to be sure though.

J. Geographic Limitations: At most locations, driving is restricted to the continental United States and Canada. A Canadian resident is prohibited from driving a U.S. owned vehicle into Canada. Please refer to the Terms & Conditions for specific information regarding geographic limitations at the THRIFTY location where you intend to rent a THRIFTY vehicle.
