I am beginning to wonder if this ride is not meeting expectations, but kind of like Star Wars the Phantom Menace, people were SO excited about it that they think fooled themselves into liking it, when in fact, in a couple years, they'll realize it sucks.

I have never ridden it. Is it as good as all the hype? Tell the truth. I'm a big girl I can handle it;)

Love thrill rides btw.

I don't mean this as an attack or anything, I really don't, it's just an observation. It seems to me like you already made up your mind on the matter. To those that reply that they were disappointed, you get confirmation. To those that reply that they weren't, you think they are just twitterpated with FJ and the love affair will die off once they realized they "fooled themselves into liking it".

:confused3 Just an observation from the way you wrote that. I haven't ridden yet, so I can't give an opinion on the ride itself. Sorry if I crossed a line or something.

Believe the hype sister! LOL. I would say it's just as good as my old time favorite ride: Spider-man!

The Wizarding World as a whole, is the best themed area I've ever been in. It lived up to all of my expectations. :thumbsup2

Three months! Looking forward to it, we could see Hogwarts when we were there in January, it looks sooooo cool and I'm also not a HP fanatic. I'll be going with a group of 50+ teenagers so I expect to ride it repeatedly!

I agree with Gryffindor_Mouse my first thought is why are you even asking - ride it when you can then come back and give your comments.

However as Gryffindor_Mouse said don't want to cross the line. I loved FJ and thought it was fantastic, really unique, I loved the theming of WWoHP. Though I love so many rides for different reasons and I love Animal Kingdom when a lot of people don't. I try to enjoy rides for what they are and what they have to offer and not judge them before I ride or compare them to other rides. Either I like it or I don't. FJ is intense and you have to ride it a few times to take it all in but I don't know if I would call it a thrill ride - not like a roller coaster. It consumes you senses in different way. Is it on my must do list for return visits - oh yes! :thumbsup2 I have booked a trip to really experience UO this Christmas rather than 1 or 2 days while visiting WDW.

I don't take any offense. Your observation is incorrect. I have only made up my mind about what other people think. I will decide what I think only after I ride.

I LOVE your avatar btw:goodvibes

Again, no offense taken, but I must say... People post threads like mine on the DIS all the time and I have never had so many responses like this. Right now there is a similar thread on the Disney "theme parks and attraction stratagies" forum called "Is TSM worth the hype?". No one seems to feel that is out of place. I did not mean to crinkle so many eyebrows, but if the poll option is not for polling people on their opinions about rides, attractions, etc. what on earth is it for?:confused3

looks like the poll is speaking and what a great answer! :)

I didn't think the Phantom Menace sucked, either. ;)

Riding FJ for the first time next week. Will pass judgment on it once I've actually gotten to ride it. Heard it's great, though. :thumbsup2

FJ is my new favorite ride, with The Mummy in a close second. My favorite used to be Spiderman before my last trip to UO.

So, try to go with an open mind that there's a chance you might not like it, and you most likely will.

Loved FJ. I'm not a Potter fan per se (have never read any of the books and don't plan to) -- but loved FJ and loved WWoHP. The ride is great and the attention to detail in WWoHP is outstanding.

I've thought for years that Spider-Man is the best theme park attraction anywhere. And, I'd have to give the edge to FJ now.

I think it was your wording of your original post. Why would anyone not tell you the truth about they feel? Where have you gotten the idea that the ride isn't meeting expectations and that people are going to suddenly conclude that it actually sucks? Other than the restraint issue, it has gotten fantastic reviews.

Thank you! ^_^ Mickey needed a scarf of his own. ;) If I was a better artist, I'd have given him a sorting hat too but eh.

hehe, I think it was just the way the original post was phrased. Its not the fact that you asked what people really think of FJ, it was the way it was worded and the comparison to the new set of Star Wars movies which did have something of a backlash after the excitement wore off. Yeah, there are going to be people who come down off the WWOHP high and think that FJ wasn't as fun as they originally thought, but I would bet the vast majority of people are still going to love that ride and that section of the park 10 years from now assuming they loved it in the first place. Of course, by then the technology might be a bit dated ;). Our toys and gizmos advance so fast these days.

I think the restraints have been the biggest point of contention that I've seen. That and a few people aren't impressed with the quality of the video inside the ride itself. I haven't seen any major complaints though. People generally seem to adore it.

The ride is as great as everyone is saying but keep your expectations in line. If you expect it to change your life, chances are, it probably won't. :wizard:

Sorry - think it was the phrasing of your thread title especially "Tell the truth" it seemed to me to be confrontational, or that those who like it have been fooled, maybe if it had said "is it worth the hype".

I rode it for the first time on Thursday and was back several more times over the next few days during our vacation. We all loved it and agreed that it was the best ride at Universal. Sure, we are big Harry Potter fans, but even without the theming, I think it is well done. They incorporated a great ride with great visual effects. And the walkthrough Hogwarts is incredibly well-detailed. I loved it! I can't wait to go back and ride it again!

Good questions:goodvibes
I suppose the "tell the truth" part could have been left out. It was not meant to stir people up. More just flair for my thread ;)
As for where I got the idea people didn't like FJ, I read some threads about DISers being really unimpressed with the ride. There were references to the movie being "blurry" and the "dementors on a stick" looking cheap. It looks like everybody LOVES this ride. I go to Florida in 15 days!!!:cool1:

Have to agree with this; we just got back Sunday. The ride was OK, but honestly we all liked Soarin better.

The BEST thing about FJ is the walkthrough and the land it's located in; it truly felt like entering the world of Harry Potter. :cool1: My favorite HP movie is the first one when Harry is discovering the wizard world. Everything is so cool and new and exciting, and that is how it felt in WWoHP. We did the FJ ride twice, but spent a good deal of time doing just the walkthrough. We just stood there watching the portraits and checking everything else in detail. I just wish they could have had the moving stair cases! Now that would have been cool.
