Quick question about the single rider line at FJ.

We are heading to IOA the Tuesday of Thanksgiving week We are not onsite, so no early entry. I am the only one who will be riding FJ, and my plan is to head over first thing in the morning, do the single rider line, and then later take a castle tour with the rest of the family. I had the following description saved in my vacation file, but I can't remember who posted it. So I am trying to understand it better.

"For the single rider line for Forbidden Journey don't even bother going thru the main entrance. After walking thru the Hogwarts gates there is a split in the castle rock with a path that leads back into the rocks. Follow that path and there will be doors at the end. Walk thru those doors and your at the base of the stairs of the single rider line."

So from a park opening perspective, what does this mean? Do I still follow the recommended path to get to WWOHP, but then don't go through the castle? Instead, look for a rocky path? Can someone explain this better please? All the other single rider posts say to just go through the lockers and look for a set of unmarked stairs.

Sorry for the probably silly question, my type A personality is getting the best of me with all this planning!!

You can still go in the normal entrance no matter what line you are using. The single rider line is off to the left where the normal entrance is straight ahead and the locker entrance is to the right.

It is very dark in there after coming in from the bright daylight, so you might want to ask the attendant.

So...go to Wizarding World by following the hoards of people. Go through Hogsmeade following the hoards of people.

Go through the castle gates

damo is completely correct. The text you quoted is another option too, however. There is a set of doors in the castle foundation to the left of the main entrance (the second picture above). You pass them to get to the main entrance, so yes it's a little shorter this way. Not a big difference though, so if you can't enter by the SR doors just continue on with everyone else and bear left past the lockers.

We were just there and the single rider line was roped off, manned by an attendant and we had to tell her we were going to the single rider line. It is to the left of the entrance. Be careful following people, if you don't know where you are going...the first time through FJ we ended up following some people going into the castle only tour. We were able to talk to an attendant at the library room with Dumbledore and she was kind to us and got us into the ride line.
The single rider line was great on our last day in the park we went in at 7:30 early entry and when we got over to FJ the line was already 1 hour long. But we figured it was our last day so we would wait....they were announcing for people to think about using the single rider line and we jumped at that...we got right up and on, two of us and we ended up on the same set of seats side by side. So I highly recommend using the single rider line.

the stairs were roped off when i went last october.
i just moved the rope and went by it to the stairs.

if a TM is not there standing, you can still use the single rider line.

i was under the impression they rope that single ride entrance off so guests don't go in a group thinking they will all sit together.

it is possible 2 in the same group would be on the same section, but not more.

the single rider line goes fast once the regular line homies are told where to go.

you have to hussle to catch up sometimes.
well, i did.

i was gawking and looking around when the TM said, hurry up!
sit on car xx on the end...

there were two times when i went to that line that i came up to the loading area and only 4 peeps were in my line ahead of me.......basically no wait at all .......i was lucky

You would think they could take that single rider line entry & also make that an Express Pass entry as well? :wizard:

you guys are awesome, thank you so much! I will be geared up and ready to dominate that single rider line!! :cool1:

I always cut off to the left into the rock crevice, before entering the doors. I don't go inside the castle with the mob. At the end of that crevice is a wooden door that opens up directly onto the stairs. You go up the stairs, but if you glance to the right just as you enter, you will see the mob of people in the regular line. Now I like to ride it several times via single rider line, so after I ride it the first time, I do cut through there from the gift shop into the locker area, walk through the lockers, get in the big mob for a few seconds, just long enough to cross to the single rider line inside. It's dark in there, I just look for the yellow rope with the stairwell behind it. Most of the time there is a CM there that tells me that for single riders only, but sometimes no one is there and you just have to walk behind the rope.

Aubriee: So this sounds like exactly what I had saved to do. So, just to be clear - walk through the regular entrance into Hogwarts, but DO NOT go into the main entrance of the castle. When I see the big mob of people, just cut left and follow the rock crevice to a wooden door?

now i'm confused.
i think we are doing it the same way.....when i have talked about it before, i assumed everyone did that short cut.

i enter thru that arched way, walk a few steps, lockers ahead on the right, winding steps on the left.

i go to the left for the single rider line.

doing that, i'm not with the crowd.

i have seen the split inside the building for single rider line.
the point where after the pictures when the TM allows the SRL homies to go there.
i went with a friend that wanted to see the picture area so we did that once.
that is the long way to the srl.
but, only once i did that route.
the other way is quicker.

never have gone thru the gift shop.
thought that was frowned upon. :confused3

The best advice is to not be scared to walk right by hundreds of people standing to the right. When I have been at very busy times people just assume they have to stand there and wait but you can walk to the left hand side of the line. When you get the the front just tell the TM that you are a single rider and they will let you walk right by.

NOTE: This ONLY works if you don't have bags. If you need a locker you have to get in the back of the line.

Is it possible? Is it true? I can actually impart knowledge to you for a change?

Yes, before you ever get that main entrance near the lockers (pictured above), there is this other way through the crevice PPs have mentioned. I used it one of my first trips when a TM pointed me that way. It is after you enter the gates with the winged hogs, and before the main entry. Honest and for true. ;)

I'll have to try that secret door next time. I never knew it existed either. I hope it is easy to find!

Most likely when express comes in, it will be the castle tour line.
If I were in charge of Forbidden Journey, I would push as hard as I could to NOT get Express at that ride. The ride's capacity is already great as it is, and I like how the line continues to move. If the ride is stopped for too long, guests will get bored and touch stuff, and climb into Dumbledore's office, try to walk up to see Harry an Ron, etc.

You do get that we're not talking about the gift shop, yes? This is a third avenue into the queue area--this one puts you right at the base of the SR stairs.

Sorry if your funnin' me and I'm not gettin' it. ;)

So the single rider line secret door is in the gap where the light is shining from---and the main entrance is through the lit archway?

hogwarts.jpg

In this picture there is one person standing in front of what I assume is the entrance to the pathway to the secret single rider entrance and the second couple is walking towards the main entrance.

Can those in the know confirm this or am I totally confused too?
