Forbidden Journey questions

Hi. I am trying to plan our vacation to Disney and Universal in June 2017. I am hoping that my 6 year old will be 48 inches tall by then (2 more to go) and be able to ride Forbidden Journey. That being said, how scary is it? I read that each person is in their own pod like thing. Does this mean he won't be able to hold my hand? For reference, roller coasters like Space Mountain aren't scary at all and he loves them, but we have yet to make it through Tough to Be a Bug in Animal Kingdom. He did fine on Dinosaur at age 4. I am more worried about the realism and not being able to hold mommy's hand than the "thrill" aspects of the ride.

You can definitely hold his hand.

Most of the scary parts are larger than life things, like in the books and movies. I think letting him watch the first movie and judging from that might be a good idea.

You might be able to hold hands, but it's really hard to see or hear people next to you. I can't lean far enough forward to see much usually. Also, the speakers are in your ears in the back of the seat. He can also close his eyes when he gets scared.

We had a signal for when I knew he would want to close his eyes (for the acromantulas). I would squeeze his knee when they were about to appear (close your eyes!) and again once they were gone (open them!).

Alas, this meant that I had to keep my eyes open. And I'm massively phobic. Sigh.

There are auditory queues (you hear Hermione when the spiders are gone) but I don't hear that well in situations like that. And I think they show up just after the dragon breathes fire at you.

Thanks. He has seen the first 4 movies (and listened to the books). They weren't too scary. I am wondering if maybe there is a youtube of the ride that I can let him watch ahead of time.

I'm sure there is but it might be hard to see.

It's not great, but it will give you an idea of what to expect. In between the screens, there are animatronics that jump out at you. the spiders spit at you. the dragons breath "fire" at you. Dementers fly at you. It could be very scary.

I highly suggest skipping the first 30 seconds. It's film of the line and you should see that in person first!!! It's incredible.

My advice: If you get scared or overwhelmed, just look at your knees. It'll remind you that you're just sitting on a bench, moving around a little, watching screens and puppets. None of it is real. :)

i agree.

Except I'm fairly certain that the acromantulas are real. Because it would be just my luck to convince myself they aren't, then wham. I'm dinner.

Hahahahahaha *desperate fear of spiders*
