For those worried about using KLM Code with National

I had been following the rental car threads for April, May, and August for upcoming trips not just to Disney. On one of the threads I learned about the KLM code for use with National. I subsequently signed up (it's free) and made rental reservations for 4/26 - 5/4 and 8/15 - 8/24.

I wanted to come back and let everyone know who has expressed concern about using it that I didn't have any issues. I made sure to bring my card with me in case they asked, but I was never asked for it. Saved me $287 over the regular National rate and the rate I got was less than I was able to get from any of the other rental companies.

I hope this will alleviate some fears people may have of using the KLM code, which by the way is 8572130. I would of course sign up, just in case you are asked to produce your card.

Thanks to all those posters who provided the info in the first place!

I used the KLM code last week out of BWI.
national counter told me they don't need to see my card.

without that code, renting a car would have been as high as my air fare.......

I never had any doubt that it was a problem. Controversies usually only exist on an internet board.

They've caused this question themselves, though. January 2013, when I joined KLM/flying blue, the code was right there on KLM's website. You could navigate through the site and find it.

Since then it disappeared. Since it has continued to work, that's been OK. But...it's not something you can find on their site, and IMO it's a righteous concern that suddenly they'll decide that it's not valid.

I've used the code 3 times, twice in Orlando and once in Oakland. Never been asked for the card and never had a problem.

Agree with the others we have used it since we discovered it in multiple states with multiple families over 10-12 times in the past two years alone without issue. Have family coming into Dallas in a couple weeks and they got a minivan for $250 for the week all in. Great deal every time for us.

I do know someone who used this code in Vegas and when he got there they required a passport. Which he did not have and was unable to get the car at that price. Maybe it was just Vegas. I have a car booked using this car - if I stay with this I will take my passport just in case.

What website do I need to go to to join?

KLM airlines

:confused3 1st I've ever heard (here & on flyertalk or tripadvisor even) of anybody not being able to utilize the code. There are codes that are restricted to certain countries, this is not one of them.

last time we rented national/alamo @ LAS it was still a very small operation. Perhaps the staff member wasn't properly trained. in that case I'd have asked to speak to a supervisor and called national, at very least he should've emailed them when he returned home to request an adjustment on his credit card charge to reflect his reservation.

If the reservation system accepts the code, you are good to go . . . As long as you have the membership proof (or otherwise meet the conditions).

Used the KLM code at MCO in April with no problems. Also just used it last week at BDL (Hartford, CT) with no issues. At no time was I asked for my KLM card but I had it with me just in case. Booked with National for our December trip with the KLM code as well.
