I am looking into Sony eReaders. I want the ability to borrow from the library so Kindle is out, and the Nook is out owing to a long standing dislike of Barnes and Noble.

Anyway, if you have a sony, is there anywhere else to buy books from other than the sony store? I know where to find plenty of freebies, but if I want to buy something, is the sony store my only option?

If the sony store is the only option, do you find them to be competitively priced with amazon/BN, and do they have pretty much the same selection?

TIA for help.

Sony Readers take plain vanilla Adobe Digital Edition ePub/ePDF files so you can buy from any store which sells those. Note: Barnes and Noble and the Apple iBooks sell ePub, but they have their own encryption schemes so you can't put them on a Sony unless you strip off the DRM first.

My favorite is Kobobooks because they frequently have discounts codes.

you can also buy from Borders (front end on the Kobo catalog so really the same as Kobobooks), BooksOnBoard, Fictionwise (owned by Barnes and Noble), diesel-ebooks, ereadable.com and many, many other places.

The Sony store is priced the same for the Agency priced books. Others are hit and miss. They are often priced higher.

There really is no all around solution unless you learn how to take off the drm,
