To start another thread ... We have an Alaska cruise set to leave 6/1. We have to fly through Toronto onto Vancouver. We do have Disney insurance (that is another whole story) and booked through Disney Air. Our overall cruise is around $15K. If I understand everything since we are aleady PIF, we will only get back 75% of this total cost if we cancel? Is that the current state with all of the DCL updates?

Any insights on what you are going to do?

Thanks~

If you use the Disney Vacation Protection, you get 75% of the non-refundable portion at the time you cancel. So if your current non-refundable portion is 50%, you would get 50% back as originally paid (i.e.- back on your credit card), and 75% of the remaining 50% (non-refundable) amount as a credit for a future cruise.

So if you had $10k down on the cruise (not including port fees/taxes/etc), and were at the 50% non-refundable date, you would get $5k back on your original payment method, and a $3750 credit for a future cruise. You would also forefit your insurance premium as you used it. However when you cancel you do get refunded all of your port fees, taxes, etc..

We are leaving on a cruise late June. No plans to chAnge although we have cancel for any reason insurance. I already have our flights and one night at Rivera before the cruise. This thing should be well over by then.

I thought we had for the cancel for any reason insurance. I specifically told the DCL rep that is what I wanted. Oh sure she said, we have that. So dumb me, ok let's do that. I guess my cancel for any reason and their cancel for any reason are not the same. I could just kick myself!

Typically, cancel for any reason on travel insurance is only partial coverage (similar to the 75% that the "vacation protection" package offers). The difference with DCLs offering is that it is less expensive (from what I've seen), but only gives you a DCL credit, rather than refunding your money. Then again, I haven't shopped around too much, so there could be some great, cheap, cancel for any reason policies, and if anyone knows of any, I'm all ears!

I am no expert, but with continued rise in new confirmed cases in the US on a daily basis, I am not sure it will be over by June. While I am hopeful it would be under some control in terms of spread by then, we (US public) will still for sure be monitoring the situation. I realize China is several magnitudes worse than what we have here in the US, it's already more than two months out from initial report of the outbreak, it's still no where close to back to "normal" there.

I'm on that same Alaska cruise and I'm going to have to cancel. I did buy trip insurance but I'm not sure if it was the cancel for any reason. Normally I'd risk it but my elderly father was recently diagnosed with cancer and will have to start chemo in the next few weeks. We booked this a year ago and were very much looking forward to it but I don't want to risk his health. I'm hoping we can recover as much as we can but it is a no go even if things got better he may not be up it depending on how the chemo makes him feel.

We had a cruise all booked/mostly paid for, when my dad was diagnosed with Lymphoma a couple years ago. We had the normal travel insurance for the cruise, flights etc. A doctors note, stating that he had just been diagnosed with cancer, and would be unable to go on the cruise due to starting treatment, was sufficient for the insurance company to reimburse us 100% on pre-trip health issues. So cancel-for-any-reason likely wouldn't be necessary in your situation (though you'll need to look through your policy/contact the insurance company to make sure)

Edit to say: they reimbursed us for all 6 people, not just my dad.

We are on the same cruise. We still have time to cancel and lose deposit only. I believe as long as we cancel 57+ days out, we only lose our deposit. We are still monitoring to decide what to do.

We are on the same cruise. We are planning on going unless Disney cancels it. We are driving and not flying so not worried about that part of the trip. I am a teacher, so I will be out of school for the summer, so if we do get stuck somewhere, it's not that huge of a deal. I also have a very healthy immune system (due to being a teacher) and we are not travelling with anybody elderly or health compromised. We had to cancel this trip last year for other reasons, so I sure hope we don't have to again. I am waiting to book my Vancouver hotel room though, just in case.

I'm on the 8/7 Alaska cruise. I expect Disney to extend the policy if the situation does not improve. I'd probably be out my return tickets from Vancouver but everything else is refundable. I hope it dies down but honestly I'm almost thinking it's irresponsible to cruise at this point.

ETA: Oops-I meant 8/10. Thinking of the day we're supposed to head to Seattle.

I'm on an August Magic cruise in N. Europe, and I feel the same way. :(

We are on the 6/27 Southern - I'm just going to wait it out and see where we are in another month or so.

We are cruising from Alaska on 8/3 and just wish Disney would extend the last-minute cancellation through the whole summer. It’s not fair our 120 day mark is approaching and we don’t have all the info we need to make a decision.

I feel for everyone in the bad situations now with the virus and I am thinking about our family and our cruised planned out for next May as well. Will I be in the same situation? Don't know, but I think I might have a solution. I think I will plan a Plan B vacation along with our cruise vacation for next year during the same time, just in case. Maybe Disneyland. I think I will have something else on the side just in case we are at the same place next year.

What I am referring to is if it reoccurs. Like if it does go away, but reoccurs next year.
