It is a snowy, cold day here in Ohio, but we are talking about pools in my house. The local pool store is having their pre-season "sale". Anyhow, my question is what size pool to get. I don't want the smallest or something that will take up my whole yard.

We are thinking of a 21' pool. Would this be sufficient for a family of 4?? If you have a 21' pool, how many people(kids) can you have in at one time?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

We have an 18 foot pool. We had four kids in at one time and often 4 kids and 2 adults and it was big enough. I think a 21 foot pool would be fine for you if it's just for leisure.

I have an 18 foot round and want a larger one but the layout of my yard and the zoning rules do not allow it. My choice would be a 24 foot round. If you have a Namco store near you they are pretty decent to deal with. There are also some great deals on the Net.:beach:

We have a 21 footer. Its just me, DH and DD10. My husbands first remark after it was installed was we should've gotten a 24 footer. While we have a blast in it, we could've gone a little bigger and still had plent of room in the yard.

We like to play ball, float etc and its just a bit smaller than we would've liked I guess.

We have a 24 foot,,,its a great size! remember also that the kids will get bigger and have friends and teenagers that will be over to swim and play. so I would say go up from what you think you need.
I have 3 kids...6(girl) 11(boy) 15(boy) ...I`m in charge of taking care of it. its really pretty easy...I think Namco is great...but get it professionally installed!!! dont do it yourselves! Good luck!! :beach:

I say go with the 24 foot. We had a 27 ft round that was here when we bought the house. When it came time to replace it we went with a 24 foot.
It is a perfect size for the 5 of us, plus it is plenty big for when we have friends over.

Just my opinion but I would go with at least a 24 foot. We have a 24 foot but would have liked the 27 foot but pricing was out - my parents paid for it and we would have had to take a tree down. We have 3 kids and we have had at least 10 in at one time if not more - Girl Scout Party. I think the 18 foot is way too small - I have seen them and I can imagine having too many people in it at any one time and not much room to play. I don't think I have seen the 21 foot around here.

We have a 24' & it's a good size.

I know there is snow on the ground, but if possible, go outside with a long length of rope & actually make the circle on the ground of a 21' & 24'. You'll get an idea of what it would look like in your yard.

Don't forget about the deck you'll probably have on the pool also.

What do you want to do in the pool? Play in the water, or actually swim for exercise? If so, go with the largest size you can afford. (If you want it for something other than a playing area).

My parents had a huge above ground pool (and do have it professionally installed!) with three children still at home. They used it for fun and exercise, so it served its purpose well. They wanted an inground, but their property had tufa immediately below the surface which made it cost prohibitive to dig through for an inground.

The above ground in areas where there are harsh winters will require special care, of course (to prevent problems related to freezing and thawing of the water and ground).

Look at your property and what you can afford. (Bigger more expense in the future with covers, liners, etc.). Not much of a deal breaker. How big would you want a deck around it or part of it if you want one and add the max. feet allowed from your deck to the property next to you and do you want more space beyond that. You might have an acre or more and then no problem at all, lol. This is all depending on where you plan to place the pool (middle of property in back - not a problem either. Just something else to consider.

Thanks everyone for your input. We are going with the 24 footer. Went up to our local pool place and they are running free installation and the top package for the price of the base package. I'm sure with the economy they will be dying for sales this year. Thanks again.

Good Luck with it and enjoy it. I wish I was in mine more often.

Nobody gives free installation. They bury it the price of the pool and then charge for extras. For example they charge a trip fee to come out, charge to build the ladder, the filter, install the skimmer. You also want to see how much they are charging you for the dig work (everypool has to have the topsoil removed). Do they include the block, sand or water?

If you like Pm me I can help you out. At least tell you what kind of deal you got. I have been in the business my entire life.

We have a 24' above ground and love it! It is myself, DH, 2 kids and their 2 friends and there is plenty of room. We also have a deck around ours that my husband built. We have had our pool/deck for 2 years now and it has been so much family fun and great times! :)

Here are a couple of pics of our pool in the summer:
