Sitting here with a sleeping pug in my arms... not easy to type!

Anyway... We have used a Brita filter at home and know you need to change the charcoal filter after a couple of months of continued use. But what about using it for only for a week? Do you need to get a new charcoal filter each time you travel to WDW or can you use the same one over and over again, drying it out in between visits. How does that work?

Also, what about the filter you attach to the faucet? Has anyone used that in their DVC room? How has that worked for you?

Thanks.

I asked the question on the Owner's Locker message board. Someone told me that they take their filter home with them, and use it at home. I guess if that's the case, you can take your current filter down with you and bring it back home. Just make sure it's in a zip lock bag (or other plastic bag) so it doesn't get everything in your suitcase wet.

We use the faucet filter. To store it in our OL, I drain it as much as possible, put a paper towel in a ziplock, then the filter. I don't zip the bag all the way closed so that it can continue drying. Just make sure you sit the ziplock bag upright and it should be fine.

My best recollection of how I stored my filter was just to throw it into a plastic bag and then seal it - over 6 months ago. I never even stopped to think about what would happen when I came back. :scared1:

I think a new filter packed in my luggage for my upcoming trip might not be a bad idea. In the mean time I'm subscribing to this thread to see what others might think about my little science experiment - or if others have already performed this experiment.

I would just toss the filter. I would be concerned about what grows in that warm moist medium in the interim. I don't even like to take my plastic containers out of the dishwasher and shove them together without hand drying them first. Moisture = growth of something, in my book. Even letting it dry out in a baggy (if that actually happens)... Something is going to come alive when the moisture is returned.

This is exactly what we do.
So when the Brita filter is needing to be changed at home we know it is time for a trip to Disney.:rotfl2:
