For those with 500 points and up

How long have you owned your points?

First contract purchased in 1992 - 230 points (the minimum at that time) at Disney Vacation Club which of course was eventually renamed Old Key West. Free park tickets didn’t hurt either. Then we purchased an additional 300 points at BLT when it opened. When the marketing materials arrived at our home for BLT (“your palace at the castle” :cloud9:), it was pretty much a done deal. We wanted to purchase a small contract at VWL (BRV) when it opened, but financially the time wasn’t optimal.

Do you feel like you have gotten your moneys' worth out of it?

Yes. Many years of wonderful vacations with family and friends. Celebrating life’s milestones. Introducing the magic of Disney to our grandchildren and seeing it all through their eyes. And wondering ……where the heck has the time gone?! ;)

What is the biggest point splurge you have exercised on a trip?

GVs on two trips and two-bedroom units more times than I can remember. We’ve done split stays here and there and always try to check out a new DVC resort when it opens. Our “normal” usage for just the two of us is a one-bedroom; I find it tough to stay in a studio now (yes, I will readily admit DVC has spoiled me), although I do like the studios at RR a lot.

Is there a point you expect to sell all or some of your points?

No, we won’t be selling our points and have never really - thank heavens - faced a situation where that was necessary. We would have liked more points at various times, but - especially as retirement neared - we felt it prudent to keep the status quo. I didn’t want to take on additional MFs. We are wondering what will happen in 2042 when our OKW contract ends. We’ll be in our 80’s but hopefully still traveling. :-)

Have you ever rented your points?

No. We have always found a way to use our points. We’ve gifted some of them a few times to family members. Even the few intrepid souls who have asked, “Don’t you tire of going to WDW every year?”😏 (Answer: “No, and DVC is one of the reasons why.”)

Same. Im an introvert. I could see me and @tx911 passing by each other and pretending we didn't know what each other even if we knew what each other looked like.
So you still wont hang out with me. I remember for MM you told me something along the lines of if I have extra I can get you in, but just to get you in, I dont want to hang out or anything, im not social 🤣🤣 I was like damnnn yes ma'am I wont even look at you 🤣🤣

Introverted but straight forward, thats me.

We have 549 points. A FW and a pile of 50-point contracts.

Bought the FW just before Covid. Then couldn't even use it for anything due to Covid. Then splurged on a RIV GV for 9 days.

We bought in when we lived on the West Coast and took big trips to WDW and Aulani.

Then we moved to FL last year. We had thought about selling all or most of our contracts, since we didn't think that we would use them, now that we're close to WDW. However, we've found that, between 1-2 nights stays about every other month, and 200+ points used for 3 AP's, it still seems to be worth it for now.

I wouldn’t ignore you! I’m always ok hanging out with fellow DVC lovers!

Do you feel like you have gotten your moneys' worth out of it? Yes both financially and emotionally.
What is the biggest point splurge you have exercised on a trip? BLT 3BR Grand Villa for a week. Next 2BR Aulani for a week.
Is there a point you expect to sell all or some of your points? Not really. We enjoy the resorts. Maybe if the kids don't want the points and we can no longer travel.
Have you ever rented your points? Once or twice early on when we just couldn't make a trip.

We currently have over 500 and are about to add some more but I haven't really ever considered an exit strategy or renting them because we go so often. I know things change but after going to Disney for the last 10 years on average 6-10 times a year I am comfortable believing more points isn't a bad thing in my case but the next move up will put my MF's in the range of major expense for me.
Your question got me to thinking. We started with 190 and are now at 605. Our initial thoughts on Disney vacations / stays have evolved over the years.

As for an exit strategy, we bought in smaller lots ranging from 100 up to 200-point contracts. Will sell some off if after x+ years not using them or unless the adult children want them.

We only go once a year. Would like to go more frequently once I retire. We have trips already planned for 2026 BLT, 2027 Aulani, and 2028 VDH using most of our upcoming points.

We budget the annual dues as a part of our travel.

Ok… I know you don’t like to talk about your previous user name on here (which I will never forget btw), but knowing you are introverted makes that previous name even more hilariously ironic.
