I've only just tried it in coffee. Although the packaging says to measure Splenda like you would measure sugar, a friend thinks she uses far less in her coffee.

Has anyone baked with it instead of sugar and are you using the same measurements as you would with sugar or less? Thanks.

I've used it once or twice in baking and if I remember correctly I measured the same but ended up using a bit less. Whenever I try something new I tend to "taste" along the way. So when I felt the flavor was right I stopped adding. Sorry this is so vague, but my style of following a recipe is usually to modify anyway.

I've used Splenda in baking chocolate chip cookies and have used it the same as sugar and it works wonderfully well - have not noticed any difference in taste at all.

This is a hard one. It's so expensive I'd never use it in equal amounts as sugar for baking. :earseek: So far, the things I've used it in called for 1/4 cup or less of sugar. I only have packets & I used 2 in recipes that called for 1/4 cup....but that wasn't a baked good.

I don't know if this will help you or not, but years ago someone told me that for most recipes (baked goods) you could cut the sugar in half without seeing any change in volume or taste. Of course, we were all using our grandmothers' recipes & they called for quite a bit of sugar. My only problem now is remembering which ones I've already cut!

I use Splenda for everything- iced tea, baking, kids cereal, recipes, etc... It dissolves really well and tastes sweet with no after taste. We have a diabetic in the family and Dh and I try to watch our carb intake too. We drink all the Diet Rite sodas made with Splenda and find they are very good.

I've been using Splenda for over a year and a half, and I use it, measure for measure, just like sugar. I use the packets for hot tea, but I buy the bulk Splenda for baking and cooking. My Kroger has both, but they're also available online at www.splenda.com.

Edited to add: You'll also find recipes that use Splenda at the above link and a link to a low carb cheesecake, using Splenda, that can be ordered from the Cheesecake Factory. Yum! I may have to check that out.

The granular Splenda (in the box or bag), is a one-to-one measure for sugar, but it really does depend on your tastes. Some people find it dead on, some find it a little sweet.

You can substitute packets for the granular... the packets are equal to 2 teaspoons of sugar in sweetness. 24 packets substitute for a cup of granular.

I had purchased Splenda in bulk at Sam's but hate to take the chance of oversweetening cookies, etc. Maybe I'll try the suggestion of putting in half and go from there. Thanks everyone.
