DH is concerned about getting a bit...well, drunk, while at the wine tasting. Do they give you full glasses of wine to taste, or just small samples? We are not big drinkers at all, but thought it might be fun to try the wine tasting. I see that it's on Thursday (on the western itinerary) from 2:30pm-3:30pm, but then we have reservations for Palo tea at 4pm. After the wine tasting, would we enjoy the tea, or not??

Opinions welcome! :teeth:

Edited to add: I see that they also have the Wine Tasting on Monday at 2:30pm. On that day we have reservations for Palo Brunch at 12 noon. How long does Brunch last? I really don't want to spend the at-sea days indoors all that much, if the weather is nice.

You get small amounts of 6 wines. I think I left feeling a tiny bit tipsy, but in no way drunk. It's probably a total of 1.5 glasses of wine. It's VERY fun and they do a cool trick at the end, so I would definitely do it!

Thanks! I just read your reply out loud to DH and he said "OK, we can do the wine tasting if you want!" :teeth: I think we'll try to get tickets for Thursday's wine tasting, before the Palo tea, instead of on Monday!

That's right, it's just alittle in each glass. It's a very nice experience if you like wine.

The wine tasting was wonderful. Probably 2-3 mouths full of wine in each of the 6 glasses. There is also a little plate of cheese, crackers and grapes. I'm not a big white wine drinker, so I took only sips from those glasses. I did however empty the red wines.

As Masonpips mentioned, there is a pretty cool trick at the end of the demonstration. I'm still getting up the courage to try it at home.

You'll enjoy it.

I think it is $12 per person. We really enjoyed it 4 years ago, and will be doing it again this trip.

We enjoyed the wine tasting as well. Since that wine tasting DH has started to "enjoy" different types of wine. He's far from being a wine enthusiast - I still consider him a cheap drunk.

Hi Mary Anne :wave2:

Which day are you considering doing the wine tasting?? We're leaning towards Thursday, as of now. Maybe we'll see you there! :)

Not sure. I've go to lay everything out this week. I want to do the beer one too and they are both done at the same time. We need to decide which one which day.

You get tickets at Guest Services. Well worth it. And yes, the trick at the end is impressive.

Not full glasses...tasting samples.

Go, he doesn't have to drink everything in his glass. All the wines are poured in seperate glasses.

Rae Ann, the same thing happened to my husband!

He was never a drinker, but the wine tasting really sold him on the concept of how different wines really are and how they can enhance a meal. I still wouldn't consider him a very frequent drinker, but when we go out to eat, he enjoys trying different merlots and other wines. We joke that 38 cruises have made him a lush ;)

Even though neither he nor I drink much, the wine at the tasting was definitely not enough to make us feel drunk. It is a really neat experience...it's been a while, so we're planning to do it again on one of our next two cruises (probably #40).

Hey guys,is the wine tasting only on the 7 day cruise?

I did the wine tasting last year on our 4 day cruise on the wonder. It was awesome. I went hoping to get a better appreciation for red wines, since I prefer white. I still prefer the white, but have found one or two reds that I would try with the right meals.

What was really cool was the wine steward walked by my table at dinner that night and commented on how I had picked the right wine for my dinner. Made a big deal of it, made me feel pretty special.

I tried the "Cool Trick" they show at the end of the wine tasting and it works and is very impressive. Friends love it.

You need to sign up for the wine tasting just to learn the trick. That made it worth the time and money.

Thanks for ya'lls quick reply. I'll look forward to signing up. I'm sure someone has posted the cost, but I can't remember. What does it cost per person?

Just as an aside, if your husband is really worried about getting drunk, he can sit in with you and NOT participate in the actual tasting. On our last cruise (Wonder in 10/03), I was pregnant and sat in on the wine tasting with my hubby. They did not charge me for the class.

I strongly recommend the wine tasting -- it is the highlight of all of our cruises. I do, however, have to admit that I get tipsy from the tastings. ::blush::

I made sure I ate before I went to the Wine Tasting on the 3-day Wonder. I'm a cheap date. :teeth: I did feel a bit tipsy when I left, but enjoyed the opportunity to taste the wines. so much so we ordered a bottle of the Fess Parker Chardonnay for dinner that night!

Tammi, you were at the wine tasting on the Wonder?? So were we. You mean we were in the same room at the same time? Or did you go to it some other time?
