I'm thinking of looking for a decent (and cheap) double stroller to take to Disney. I'd like to avoid bringing ours (sit and stand) b/c it's so cumbersome to lug around. I'm looking for something that's fairly easy to fold up and won't be much of a hassle on busses. And also something that offers a decent amount of comfort for the kids. (Age 2 1/2 and almost 4 when we go)

Any recommendations for what I should look for? THANKS!

Hi there!
I also have an almost 4 year old and a 21 month old. We currently own a Combi double stroller and love it! The seats fully recline for naps and are padded fairly well. It folds up to the size of our single Graco Metrolite. It also has a strap for easy carrying and transport on and off the buses and is lightweight. My boys love it because it is side by side and they can both see out and 'play' with one another. My only gripe with it is that there are no snack/cup holders...but we bought attachments for around $20 at BRU. Hope this helped!

I sold a Jeep double last year, at a profit, even!! I had bought it at JBF (kids' consignment sale) for $25 in perfect condition. I thought we'd use it at WDW for DS and DNiece, but we decided to take two singles so we could split up if needed (and we did). I figured I'd start out at what the other people were offering similar strollers at and come down if no one bit. I ended up selling it for $60!!

It was a decent stroller, though, we used it a couple of times locally to see if we liked it. I've seen several of the same stroller on CL here. I would get a side-by-side (which the Jeep is).

I knew that my DS 4 would need a stroller for out trip, but our last one wore out 2 years ago... I started searching Craigslist back in January... I was pretty consistant with searching every single day, knowing the maximum price I was willing to spend... An ad popped up after about 10 days of searching for a Combi City Savvy.. the seller was about an hour away from us and was asking $60... I told them that I could find a used one on Ebay for that price with free shipping, and I got them to agree to $30, (I of course wanted to actually see the stroller before any money was exchanged).. During a day trip, we made a stop at the seller's house and the stroller was in great condition...folds up so compact w/ a built in carry strap... I'm very pleased with it and am sure it will work well for us... I was hoping to find a Maclaren Volvo, but they were scarce and people wanted way to much money for them... I actually came across a new one at TJ Maxx for $80... not bad..

I'd suggest just to keep looking, and don't offer to pay asking price unless you this it's a great deal...Buying second hand on Craigslist saved lots of money as opposed to renting a stroller, and it's a lot sturdier than a $20 Walmart stroller...

Good Luck!

Great tips! Thanks so much! I'll have to start looking daily and see what I can come up with. Sounds like the COmbi would be a good choice! :cutie:

Mostly a repeat of what everyone has said but definitely Combi! Very portable and perfect for trips. We already had one from our first son but wanted to get another one for our second. We have a double stroller but wanted 2 singles for Disney. I looked online for months to find a good deal. Finally, after checking Craigslist daily, I found one still in the box for $85 and about 30 minutes away. I offered $75 cash and she took it.

So, just keep looking...I thought I would never find one but my daily efforts paid off.

I bought a double stroller, specifically for taking to Disney World, a few years ago for my kids. I bought it on Craigslist Boston. It is a MacLaren Twin Traveler, was used once and in awesome, perfect condition. I got it for $150 I think, and it was originally well over $300. I know that's a little steep, but it was well worth it to me, since it is lightweight, folds like an umbrella stroller and easily fits thru any standard doorway. The independent reclining seats were also great for us, since my kids are 4 yrs apart and had very different sleeping/nap schedules.
I would caution against the sit and stand strollers, unless you're absolutely certain that your older child would NEVER want to recline or doze off. Our friends brought one for their 2 kids- ages 4 and 2 and their 4 yr old was constantly trying to scum a ride in our double stroller because he was tired of having to hold himself upright on the bench seat of his own stroller.

ALICE, yes if I rent that's where I'd rent from for certain! I'm just trying to save more money but I figure if I spend $85 or whatever it is for the week, maybe I'm better off just buying if off Craigslist instead and then resell afterwards. But I will probably end up renting in the end. I'm part of a swap right now but my fear is that the stroller will be in shreds by the time that I get it in December. So I'm weighing all my options.

CURIOUS for those who prefer 2 singles over a double - why is that? I understand the possibility of splitting up. But A) how do you deal with 2 strollers in the airport and also any carry-on luggage? and B) what about the times that one parent may end up staying at the resort to sleep in or whatever and the other wants to head to the park early with the kids?

THANKS again!

I agree that the Combi is great. We actually found ours at Salvation Army (we were buying it for our WDW trip). We only paid $8 for it, went home and looked it up and the same stroller resaled for about $300! The stroller is great and folds up very well. The carry strap made it so nice when trying to climb on the bus. Our girls were 18 months and 4 and they were both comfortable in it. It's been a great stroller and I have been very happy with it.

I hope you find something you like,
Erin

We prefer to use 2 strollers just because we like to make it a man-to-man coverage.:) The aiport (especially) is going to be a pain no matter if it's double or single. We are taking only 2 carry-ons so that shouldn't be a huge problem. And, we don't plan on splitting up but if we do, we're covered. Again...planning man-to-man.

Plus, we already have a double but it's the Kolcraft Contours which is a great stroller...but not great for traveling and Disney. So, I personally, didn't want another double and felt I could get more use (in the long run...aside from Disney as well) with 2 singles, especially since I got my 2nd for such a great bargain on Craigslist.

We decide on two singles so that we can split up if need be. But we also bought stroller connectors so if we want to use it as a double we can, LOVE THEM!!!
