For those who took the developer points..

We are waiting for our resale contract to close, and want to add on a contract at AKV through Disney.
We have a trip planned for Sept through CRO that we would cancel if we could use the developers points to make a reservation for a trip some time this fall.

When you take the developer points, can your guide check availabilty of resorts for upcoming months? Since the points have to be used in 7 months, I'm concerned with the upcoming busy DVC season that we wouldn't be able to get into anything for this fall. Obviously if we took the developer points instead of the decreased cost per point, we would want to be able to actually use those points.
We could be flexible on dates going most weeks in Sept, any in Oct, Nov or Dec.

We're considering buying a contract right now. I told our guide I'd only want to get the contract if I could be sure to get a certain vacation in the next 7 months (Disneyland actually, since I can't travel to WDW in the next 7 months). He went ahead and checked availability for me.

We still haven't decided, but the guide was very understanding and willing to check availability for the developer points.

Although I haven't decided on AKL or SSR yet, either way I only want the developer points if I can use them for a trip I already have planned for CRO.
We closed yesturday so as soon as I am in the system I will call the guide..

Any experts on developer points out there?

If we took the developer points for a Disneyland Grand California vacation in November, but then had to cancel, what would happen to the points?

When would we have to use them by? Could we only use them at a Disney Hotel and not a DVC property? What's the rule if you convert points to use them at a non-DVC property?

If we do buy into AKV, I want to make reservations for a family gathering at Thanksgiving this year at Disneyland with the developer points, but if people can't make it and I need to cancel, I'm wondering how I could still use the points -- still within the 7 months, I'm assuming.

I'm thinking of getting an add-on at SSR. Are the developer points available for SSR, too, or only if I purchase at AKL?

If I have to purchase AKL to get the developers points, can I use them anywhere or only at AKL? I have a trip planned to SSR in Jan. 08 and would like to use the points toward that stay.

I asked both my guide and member services. They both gave me a consistent answer that I could use developer's points at any DVC resort. Hopefully, by the end of the week, I will know for sure. I did my add-on on Sunday and as soon as I see the non-developer's points in my account, I will call to make a ressie with the developer's points.

I'm not sure that the developer points will appear in your account. I seem to remember people who have taken the developer points in the past saying that they are tracked separately.

They are tracked separately. But I was hoping to see the add-on points in my account instead of calling MS each day to see if the developer's points have been posted yet. i.e. if the add-on points are there, then the developer's points should also be available.

You won't see the developer points listed in yout online account. If you call MS they will be able to tell you the amount available.

As I understand it, the developer points can be used any way the regular points are used. They must be used within 7 months from signing of the contract.

I guess I was wondering if I could book directly through my guide, or do you still book through MS for the developer points. I thought I remembered someone saying that you could book through your guide.
