For those who stay in Garden View at Poly...???

We stayed at OKW last spring, went over to the Poly to look it over. The CM at the front desk we spoke to was very friendly, super polite, took us up to an available room so we could look it over. I thought they were all great, and yes, everyone greeted us with Aloha. We plan to stay there after our next trip in November back home to OKW.

My vote is for Tokelau ... best garden view building in my opinion. I've already stated the reasons I enjoy this building in other threads so I won't babble any further. Try for room 3915 ... great view, side-view of castle.

And as far as CM's are concerned, I find that the trouble spot is definitely the front desk. It is hit or miss. Sometimes you will get a wonderfully well-trained and enthusiastic CM, but sometimes you will find someone who makes you feel as if you are intruding on their space; no eye-contact, no simple 'hello', not even looking up, etc. It has happened to me several times.

Never any problems in Kona or Ohana's or Captain Cooks ... and I particularly like the concierge staff - especially Marilyn and Katherine.

Also, Lipoa and Auntie Kaui (sp?) in the main lobby are terrific. Lipoa has actually developed a pen-pal relationship with my eight year-old son who has been so taken with her on each of our trips. She and Auntie Kaui have become like family and we love seeing them each time we come. They are two of the nicest CM's I have ever met.

I turn 35 tomorrow
:cake: Happy 35th Birthday Tikiman!!! :cake: :bday:

Back to the topic: I hope to get Fiji! I just enjoy strolling along the Marina. And it's more secluded to me and I like that. Either side I get I'm happy, but of course to face the beach/lake/GF, that would be even better! I do want to be on the 3rd floor. Of all the resorts I have stayed at, I have always asked for the higher floor, and mostly granted.

If not granted, then I think I would want Tokelau facing Tahiti or Samoa further away from the pool. I am just worried that it might get too noisy and I will not be able to sleep or nap.

So... ::crossing fingers:: hope we will get Fiji in August!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :bounce:

My wife and I stayed at the Poly JULY 2002 and we were really disappointed in our stay there. After staying at POR, CBR, and SWAN on several trips we had always dreamed of staying at the Poly, so we planned our 30th. :love2: wedding anniversary there, after much anticipation and excitement of finally be able to stay there, I would have to say we were surprised in how run down that the resort was, it didn't appear to us that the resort has had an update in a long time. Our room was very well worn and never could get the AC to cool down sufficient enough, even after having the staff work on it several times, there also were lights burned out in the room and even the back was missing off of the remote control....even after leaving notes and talking to the staff, nothing was taken care of.......It's safe to say we will never consider staying there again....Give us POR any old time!

1. I am guranteed a ns building NOT just room but whole building
2. My request for a building was Tokelau

I am curious who told you were guaranteed a NS building. Most can not even get a guaranteed NS room even with a medical request.

Also please be aware that even if you get NS building we have gotten NS rooms and buildings where the guests have smoked in the rooms, the halls and definitely on the patios, stairwells and balconies.

One in our group has severe allergies/asthma and it is always a problem for us and more it seems lately at Disney.

Good Luck.

We have stayed in Fiji and Samoa.

In Fiji we had a great room overlooking the marina, with a partial view of the lagoon. No balcony. Very convenient location.

In Samoa we had a second floor room overlooking the Volcano pool, with a great view of the lagoon. No balcony, but you could open the slider, sit on the bed, take in the sounds of the pool while looking out at the lagoon. Great room.

As far as I'm concerned you couldn't get a better room than the one we had in Samoa. Very good lagoon view at a GV price. Can't beat that.

I guess because a CM and my TA told me it would be a guranteed...due to the medical problems. I will be on guard. Thanks for the notice. I would assume that they would do whatever they could to see I get a NS room AT LEAST...doesn't sound that hard to do. Frankly I am irritated that you can be guranteed a NS room a Comfort Inn but not at 300 per night resort :sad2: I do not want a smoke infested room on my vacation. Seems like WDW could guarantee at least this request! I understand not getting a specific room or floor or whatever but this is a health concern imo...

Thanks Fantasia. Usually I am at the Polynesian so it feels strange to be home on my birthday. Well next year.

Not sure how that helps answer the Ops question but hopefully you feel better getting that out. It might have been your experience but the fact is that the rooms have since been renovated and after the new rooms are introduced it will be hard to compare any room at any resort to the Polynesian (in my opinion). Nice first post.

Sammie,

You are so right about people smoking in non-smoking rooms. A CM told me just last week that they have problems all the time in the rooms with smokers. They should do what the Grand Californian does where they charge you $200 if they detect smoke in the room at any time or after you check out.

Thanks MOMORMNM for the birthday message.

Happy Birthday Steve, hope it is a great one.

I totally agree about the NS situation at WDW, I wish they would go to the same policy as the GC has.

Last summer we booked the Polynesian and were so excited about our stay as we had a lagoon room booked. The resort was sold out and when we got to our NS room in a NS building it had been heavily smoked in and cigar smoke at that. The ashes were still on the balcony. The housekeeping staff were great and cleaned and aired out and treated the room, but we were out of a room for almost the entire day. It was that or move and we truly did not want to leave the resort. Also everyday when we would leave; the stairwells were filled with people smoking. They had even taken chairs from the quiet pool and set them up a smoking area there. I finally reported this to the Front Desk due to the fire hazard of blocking the stairwell in case of an emergency.

Wow Sammie, that was horrible. I will say (I am sure you know this as well) that this does not usually happen. So far I myself have never smelled smoke in a non-smoking building but I am sure it does happen. They do a great job of de-smoking a room but it does take a long time and they pull out all the bedspreads, pillows, sheets, etc and replace after they do the de-smoking cleaning to the room. Our friends got a room on the 3rd floor of Hawaii that was de-smoked and I could not smell a thing and I can smell it anywhere.

This has nothing to do with the Polynesian and I am not against smokers that are respectful but when we were in Maui we had a guy who every day dropped his butts on out lani and I would find a pile on the outside table. I did get the situation taken care of but can you believe that people can be that dumb?

\We also had a rude guest smoking in the Samoa building. It was most prominent in our bathroom. It was so bad you could see a haze in there! I called the front desk numerous times only to be told it was being looked into but nothing ever happened. They told me that they just cannot go knocking door to door. Since it was a non smoking building I think they should have looked into it better. Luckily the morons checked out 3 days later so we didn't have to put up with the entire trip.

Looking around the side of the balcony

The pictures are from the balcony of 2915. Please ignore the bright spot on the pictures. These were taken in 2001 before I had a digital camera so I took a picture of the picture :) The bright spot is the flash.

I would not suggest room 2916 if you want to see the lagoon. I had that room in 2004 and there is a tree blocking the view. My friend was in 3916 and said she had a nice view.

Have a nice stay at the poly

My stupid smoking future sister in law will come over to my house and throw her butts right in my drive and or in the street in front of my house...then she will watch amusingly as I stroll over, very irritated and TELL her...how gross it is etc...and I will pick up that crap!!!! :sad2: so ridiculous!!
Very OT but I had to get it off my chest as she just did that again this weekend and I do tell her it is not OK with me... :rolleyes2

Another vote for Tokelau....I copied my post from another thread:

I really liked Tokelau for the following reasons:

Although not right next door to the Great Ceremonial House, it was really close (the Poly maps are very deceptive).

Right next to the quiet pool, and a short (<2 minute) walk to the main pool.

Halfway between the GCH and the TTC so you could easily walk to the TTC for the Epcot monorail.

No parking lot views

Non smoking building.

Close to the bus stops for the other parks.

If you leaned out your balcony, you could see the lagoon. If that pesky tree wouldn't have been there, you could see castle......

Hi
First, Happy Birthday Tikiman...

We are staying 3 nights at Pop and 5 nights at Poly in "33" DAYS ..woo hoo...I can hardly wait....but we have asked for a 1st floor room because we have 2 kids DS11 and DD10 and thought it would just be easier...I think we have also requested Fiji...but now after I hear all about the wonderful balconies, I am wondering if we should ask for a balcony too...Do any of the 1st floor rooms have nice balconies....we are Garden View as well...thanks

OK.. I am gathering some infos here. The bldg from Tokelau #3915 and #3916 are GV but you can see the lake. So this is my other option if I don't get Fiji 3rd floor. Any other room # I should ask for? Well... only if you guys want to share it here. If not I understand. "Top Secret!" :)

Tikiman.. yes there will be a next year! I have celebrated my birthday twice already at WDW during Easter week that fell in April. Next year... my birthday falls again during Easter week... so I already planned to be in WDW during my birthday!

And I think I am going to celebrate it the "Paradise Island" style! Do the O'hana for breakfast and dinner!! And I will join Lipoa when she does her hula dance!  I have a pix of me and my children and Lipoa at the lobby. I just don't know how to post it here. And I am going to treat me and my family to "Spirit of Aloha!"

Carol... thanks for sharing that wonderful pixs!!

Jamie... WOW!! Awesome pixs!! Thanks for letting us see them!

I just wanted to put my vote in for Samoa. Our room faced the Volcano pool dead on and the lagoon and GV were just to our right. We could see the monorail going by and the boats in the lagoon. Even the CM who checked us in told me it was the best view in the resort and I believe he was right! Wish I knew how to post, could show you our views. Only negatives was we had the second floor, no balcony, but as a previous poster said, you could open the door and take in the sounds. Speaking of sounds, I know Fantasia you are concerned about noise from the pool....I was too, and I can honestly say unless you really strained to hear, I couldn't hear a sound and there were people swimming at midnight. I was pleasantly surprised how sound proof the room was. Don't let noise be a factor in not choosing Samoa. I would stay there again in a hearbeat.

Tokelau 1915 (patio not enclosed), 2915 and 3915 are end rooms. You can stand on the end of the balcony and see much more of the lagoon. I would say these 3 are the best garden view room that you can see the lagoon very well.

Each balcony has a wall between it. So any room farther down you can only see the lagoon looking straight out.

Take Care
Jamie

Thanks guys so much for the infos!! I am itching to go back! I have less than a month to go!! I was thinking of staying at Poly for the whole trip, but then I will miss my favorite moderate POFQ. I guess the best way to do it is by splitting. 4 nights at Poly and 3 nights at POFQ!!
