For those who purchased "kids free" tickets

As many of you know, these tickets did not have a child or adult designation on them. All tickets could be used for either a child or an adult. It seems that many have been abusing this glitch. Any new tickets purchased, including those who will be picking up at the kiosks (will call), will now find that the tickets will be designated for a child or an adult. Also Universal will be checking the tickets as evidenced on the website:


RESTRICTIONS:
* If child is over 52 inches tall, then valid proof of age is required (birth certificate or other legal document)

I received mine today. Although it may seem there is no difference, there definitely is. The PLU number on the back is different for the kid's ticket. We purchased 3 adults, 1 kid for us, our 10 yo ds and our 6yo ds, and PLU's are all the same for the adults, and different for the child. I hope they bust people who think they can cheat the system.

Is there still the option, as mentioned on a previous thread, to upgrade the child's ticket to an adult ticket? I did Email Universal Customer Services to ask this question but got a generic Email reply saying changes tot eh tickets could not be done via Email and I would need to call to make changes to the booking. I Emailed again, saying I didn't want to make changes but to know if I could upgrade at the gate but no reply.

Do these tickets still have no expiration date, until 5 days after first day of use? I bought these tickets back in Dec, and have already recieved them via fed ex. Will I still have to bring a birth certificate for my 8 year old son who is over 52", or is that only for new tickets?

Michboro, I don't know the answer to your son and proof of age as the tickets haven't even been changed yet to represent adult and child. They are still all the same. It will take place over the next week or so. I'm also not sure when they will start enforcing this rule or if they will only ask for proof of age on the new tickets. Since nothing has changed yet, it is hard to say how or when they will start enforcing it.

As far as an upgrade, they are working out the details for that. No word yet.

As of right now, the old tickets don't have an expiration but the new tickets coming out may have one.

Thanks for the prompt reply Bev Would be interested to hear if it will be possible to upgrade them. Guess the only option if not is to buy two more tickets - either way it's still a great deal so I'm not complaining

I wouldn't buy two more just yet. Even if they decide the kids tickets can't be upgraded, they will most likely give you the option of purchasing the bonus pass for your older children at Guest Services, even though it is an online deal only.

When are you going? It might take awhile to work out all the details.

I think it should have been this way all along!

I ordered two adult with the 2 free child tickets, even though there is only one child. That means I will have an extra child ticket. My hope is that my sister and BIL will have so much fun that they will upgrade their tickets to AP's (for about $80, right, Phamton?) and then make a return trip and let their DS use the second child ticket! Any more on whether these will actually expire 12/31/06? If my sister upgrades to an AP, perhaps I can talk DH into renewing our AP's! Does anyone know if the $99 renewal is still around and for how long? Thanks!

The old tickets don't have an expiration on them. The new ones might. The AP renewal is still $99 plus tax for a total price of $106.

It's too bad that Universal doesn't offer a buy one get one ticket free with no age restrictions. There are many familes that go to Universal with older children that can't take advantage of this offer.

I almost purchased these tickets when I heard that there was no difference between a child ticket and an adult ticket and then decided against it. As much as I wanted to get a good deal--these tickets weren't meant for my mom and I to use on our trip. (She's going to be 70 and I'm 42--not quite the family unit depicted in the Universal commercial!!

now you have me worried we are going to universal on sunday. i purchased the free child ticket with adult for my daughter who is 9 years old and 58 inches tall i do not know where her birth certificate is and we are leaving tommorrow. i purchased these ticket about 2 months ago and decided to pick them up at the kiosk. do you think i will have a problem i could not find anywhere on universal web site about a height requirment. any advice??? i would hate to have problems getting into the parks???

I am so relieved we didn't buy this - we have 3 kiddos - will be 13, 11 and 9 when we visit. Based on previous posts on varying threads, I would have purchased 3 tickets (me, DH, DS 13) and used two of the three freebies for DS 11 and DD 9. Looks like that wouldn't have worked though - and even DD is over the height limit!

It clearly said on the terms of these tickets that any child over 52 inches tall; 9 and under would have to show birth certificate. Now while I am sure not all will be checked, I am hoping a majority will be checked, as it will deter people from cheating the system. Personally, I would have purchased the tickets knowing I had to show a b.c. If you didn't have one or couldn't find it, you had 2 months to get one.

As I posted earlier, mine came today and the kid's ticket clearly has a different PLU number on it. I don't think it needs to say "adult or child" on the ticket...they will be able to tell by the number on it, and when it scans.

How do you know what the PLU means? If you didn't read those tiny numbers on back how would you know which ticket was which? If your party split up and wasnt going to same parks together, how would you know which ticket was the child ticket? They expect you to decipher the tiny codes on the back?
Maybe you are right who knows.
Personally, I don't think it was a glitch. Universal knows full well what they were selling and I doubt they are concerned. The idea is to get people to stay at Universal for more than a day, bring the whole gang, and spend more money!

BTW..You don't really bring your childrens birth certifcates with you on vacation ?? Do you?

No where on the site when I bought the tickets three months ago did it say "must be under 52 inches or show birth certificate". We are doing kiosk pick up on these tickets, so I guess we will see what we get.

And, no...I am NOT going to bring my child's birth certificate on vacation, no matter what...it's too important a document for me to have to fold up in a fanny pack!

You don't have to take the official birth certificate. Just make a copy of it or even an insurance card with the birth date on it.

The PLU number is not significant. The barcode is what the gate scans. Right now they scan as neither adult nor child but that will change with the new tickets.

You will be fine. Right now they aren't checking heights. The most that would happen is they might ask your child how old she is. Don't worry about the birth certificate. This is just a recent change and is not being asked for at this time.
