Now, I'm hoping someone out there can give me some advice.... yesterday the small backpacks were on sale at Vera Bradley. I didn't get one because, after debating and debating with myself, I couldn't decide if it would work for what I need. But it's SUCH a cute bag.

I have a Nikon DSLR and wanted something other than the bulky camera bag to carry the camera and 1 lens and one of the small VB wallets into Disney when we go. This backpack looked like a great size, but I'm wondering if anyone has used this for a camera bag. :confused3 I was afraid to get it and then it just be way too small.

I do have the large backpack, that they had a few years ago....but it's HUGE. I kind of don't want to bring such a huge bag if I don't have to, you know? ;)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated !!!! Thanks everyone!! :goodvibes

I bought one and am waiting for it to come in! Maybe someone already owns it though :confused3

I did the same thing as you. I debated and debated and ended up not buying. I thought I might find time to go by a local retailer to check them out, but I just couldn't fit it in the schedule yesterday. I'd love to hear anyone else's opinion on this. I too would like to carry my DSLR in it to the parks.

I have this backpack and I think the size is good for what you are wanting to use it for. However, and I have to say I'm not up on cameras and accessories, there is just one large compartment area that you'd be using for the camera and the lens. I'm imagining a lens that can detach from the camera and would think you'd need to cushion it from bumping the camera? If so, you'd need to have your own divider to separate them. There is a front section where you could stash the wallet though.

I have one of the small backpacks and it works just fine for carrying my dslr and an extra lens. I put my extra lens in a lens pouch so it stays cushioned in the pack and almost all the time my Nikon is around my neck (on the cutest strap I got in Epcot). For times I have needed to put the camera away, it all fit into the pack with enough room for a few small items (folding brush, small travel bottle of sunscreen, etc.) Now, you won't be able to put a 70-200 2.8 in that bag, but I don't think you'd need that lens walking around anyway. ;)

My girls and I are Vera Bradley freaks and took so many last trip, we had to have a separate bag just to carry all the Vera Bradleys in! lol But we loved them...matched our outfits, had plenty of pockets and everyone was happy with the bags they were carrying (I personally prefer crossbody bags, my oldest DD likes a small wristlet and my youngest likes the small backpack).

One small note though: since VB bags are cloth and can get wet, I would make sure you take an extra large ziplock to line the inside of the pack/bag to put your lens and camera in, just in case. :thumbsup2

I love my VB backpack and agree that it will prob work for you but I want to mention one thing. The straps are narrow and the heavier you load it the less comfy the thing is IMO. I am not sure I would want to haul stuff around WDW with it just from a comfort standpoint.

Just my .02

I have several VB backpacks and I love them. We spent 10 days traveling from Albuquerque to Las Vegas last year and I did just what you're asking about. I had my shiny new DSLR with a lens. I did put the lens in a separate case to protect it, then put them in the main compartment. They fit fine. I did, however, carry my camera around my neck most of the time...

There is a nice zip pocket that faces your back that allows you to put wallet/money/id, then a front pocket for misc. small items. The main compartment has two small pockets that are great for holding things like lipgloss/tissues. It's really a great bag that will hold a lot and my #1 choice for a travel bag. I've never had a problem with the straps hurting my shoulders and I carry a ton in there -- but I think that's a personal variable.

If you can get one on sale, then I would definitely recommend trying it! (you could look at one in a store near you, then purchase online if prices are better) :)

ETA: My DSLR is a Canon...I'm not sure that it matters much, but I figured I'd throw that out there in case there was a considerable size difference!

thanks for the advice everyone!! I think I'll definately get one of these the next time it goes on sale good. (and I will for sure bring large pastic bags!! thank you Nature Mom for that tip!!) :thumbsup2

I knew you guys would have great advice!! :goodvibes
