I have noticed I can get a rental car off-site of the airport for about $100 less than renting it in airport.
Is it worth the hassle to try that, or, would I be better off, just getting the car then and there? (I'm leaning in that direction because I will be driving to Melbourne to visit family when we land, and don't want to waste most of the day trying to save a few bucks)

Another question; how perfect does the room have to be to get your deposit back? Just curious.

Any other tips or tricks?

Thanks!

Secure a rental at the airport prior to arrival. That way you can shop around for the best price. If you are a AAA member, you get a good discount. We used National and were quite happy. There was hardly a line and it was quick and easy.

They scanned my credit card at check-in for a $50 hold (in case of damages). I didn't pay a deposit, and the hold was release immediately. We just did the things they asked (like leave the linens in front of the washer) and didn't do anything special (just like we would usually do leaving a hotel room).

Cool,
Thanks for the info on Cypress.
As far as the car rentals go, I've always found airport rentals to be more expensive.
I lived a couple of miles from an airport, but used to go across town if I needed a rental, to save $$.

Try Dollar first as I have found they are always cheapest. Plus you can find rate codes by searching a little on line that really help out.
I never bother anywhere else. 5 year and every time they are cheapest.

go to mousesavers.com to get coupon codes and then head to the transportation board to find out the best way to use them. In our last 4 trips we have used national emerald and have never paid more than $100 for a week and that includes an additional driver and getting to pick your own car. We have had a toyota sienna van, a saturn vue and 2 other cars I have forgotten what make and model they were I just remember they were red!

Since I'm not signed up for Mousesavers, wouldn't I have to wait until the new newsletter came out? (around the 15th, I think)
Btw, is that cute lil doggie a Cairn?

I've also found Dollar to be consistently the lowest cost for very easy airport pickup. There may be a couple off brands that can beat them by a few dollars but then you have to line up fr a bus, load your baggage on, ride to the remote site, wait in line and then get the car. Reverse the process coming back. With dollar you go down one level from baggage claim, go to the counter, walk across the street and get your car. Bringing it back is as easy. I travel to Orlando at least 6 times a year every year since 1998 and it is the best airport/car rental process of any airport I've ever been in. I used to check the other brands but Dollar always beat them so I gave up on that. I also joined Dollar Express so there is little or no wait in line.
