For those who have stayed at CBR a quick ?

We have a preferred view reserved for October at $149 per night to be closer to the main building and such but when I spoke to 407wdisney yesterday thet informed me that the passholder rate for a standard view is only $89 per night. My question is would you pay the extra money for the perferred view or for that big of a price difference would we be just as happy staying in any of the buildings? we are staying for 9 nights so the savings would be significant. What would you do? I've never stayed there before so I don't know much about the resort and how far away from the action we might be if we go standard.

Personally, no. The last time we stayed at CBR we were upgraded anyhow. We don't spend much time in the room, so to save that much money (plus that's even more saved on the expensive taxes!) I would get the other rate.

Hi, I booked CBR for $149.including tax...for Sept. $89. dollars is a great price.. did you tell them you were a passholder? I was waiting for a FL res
rate but that price is a lot better...I would definetly book the room..

We stayed in Martinique before it was cost extra, it was convenient, but I don't think I would have paid extra for it. They do have an internal bus if you don't want to walk.

For that much money I would pass on the preferred building. When it is $15 a night for preferred that is a great choice.

Jamaica or Aruba are a good choice to request if you don't want to pay for preferred.

This is just me, of course, but we stayed there in January and I decided that I would never stay there again unless it was in the preferred section. I've stayed at almost every resort and NEVER paid extra for preferred (too cheap!), but this is the one resort I would be willing to do so. It is HUGE! Although the internal bus is great - we ended up using it a lot because we were so far away from the food court.

For $540.00 - I'd skip the preferred. I wouldn't take preferred for $15 extra - except next July it's the only FL Resident rate available so I'm taking it! I''ll be at CBR for the first time - but I've stayed at CSR and loved it. We enjoyed the walk to the main building because it's so pretty. I assume I'll enjoy the walk at CBR as well.

Skip the preferred. We stayed in Jamaica-which was only a short walk across the bridge and we loved this section. I dont feel being closer to the crowds is better-I would rather a short walk back to a more quiet, private location.

We stayed for two nights in March, before heading to a DVC room with my parents. My Mom checked us in and they upgraded us, which was very sweet as my Mom has trouble walking and I think the CM wanted to be kind to her... Anyhow, we were in Martinique and it was AMAZING. We had a wonderful time and the tropical view of the beach, lake and lighthouse THRILLED me... That said, there are too many tales on the Boards about people who shell out a LOT of $ for "view" and are sorely disappointed. Our room was one of those "Disney miracles" that happen occasionally, but our whole building cost extra and some of those rooms had the view of the stairwell! If I were you I would book the "standard" and then politely ask the CM at check-in for "the closest they can get you." They are usually so accomodating, and you will probably be assigned a great room. Think of all you can do with that money you save!

Thanks for all the input. I changed our ressie to a standard view. We are going with Dh's father and step mother and they are both on scooters so I asked to be close to the main building and the reservation agent noted that request in the system so it's possible we will get a preferred view anyway. I'm sure it will be fine wherever we end up.

I am not sure what you mean by the main building. The customs house is where you check in and it is set apart from the villages. Typically the only time you visit that building is when you check in or out.

Old Port Royale is the "hub" of the resort. It is where the food court and main pool are located. On either side is the preferred villages that cost extra.

I guess I just meant that because we will be with two people with medical issues we may get put near a preferred building anyway. Make sense now?

To the OP:

It sounds like you're using the terms "preferred view" and "preferred location" to mean the same thing, and they're not.

At CBR, a "preferred location" means being in any room in either of the 2 villages beside Old Port Royale, which are Matinique and Trinidad North. You pay more to be there when you want to be within relatively short walking distance to Old Port Royale.

CBR also offers "water view" rooms, although the water one pays to view may be the village pool and not the lake.

Each option costs $15 per room per night. When I made reservations I was told that you can't pay $30 per night for both options, a water view in a preferred location. If you pay for the preferred location, getting a water view is a matter of luck (or persuasion).

Preferred location is good if you want to make sure your walks to and from Old Port Royale are kept to a minimum. If you don't care about how far you might be from OPR, don't pay the extra money. I've NEVER asked for water view because I haven't wanted to, in my opinion, get "stuck" overlooking a pool that might be noisy at night.

The first time I went I didn't know to ask for anything special. We had a room in Aruba, right across from Jamaica, right near the bridge going acros the lake to OPR.

Last time, last month, I paid for preferred location to be near OPR because I thought it would be convenient for me with my 2 pre-schoolers. Well, we got probably the farthest away preferred room, Trinidad North #3340. However, the good part was we were probably the closest room to the Trinidad North bus stop, so that was very nice and convenient when we were tired and returning from the parks.

Definitely wouldn't pay for the preferred anything with that big of a difference in price afterall, you really don't spend that much time in your room looking out the window anyway.

I wouldn't pay extra. I'd just take some advice of DIS'ers who seem to be on your wavelenth as far as what you want from your room and location and go in prepared to "work" with your checkin CM to get it.

There are a zillion people on scooters in Disney. While they may give you a preferred building, please don't count on it. On a scooter, it doesn't really matter if you have to scoot a little farther.

I am perfectly healthy so I don't mind if we have to walk farther to OPR but DH's father is a severe diabetic and a very sick man so I will just keep my fingers crossed that he won't have to "scoot" that far!

I stayed in Barbados 15 about 2 years ago. It was a quick walk to OPR. I liked the walk along the lake. I wouldn't pay extra to be closer.

As for scooters, be sure they are aware that you need first floor for medical reasons. There are no elevators.
